"According to ESPN’s John Clayton, a little-known-rule from 2010 has taken Davis off the market. Since he spent the entire 2010 season on the physically-unable-to-perform (PUP) list, Davis’ 2010 contract terms have tolled over to 2011.

Clayton reports that Davis remains under contract for $3.268 million in 2011. He missed all of 2010 after suffering a major knee injury during offseason workouts. Davis also suffered a knee injury in 2009 and was recovering when he injured it again. "

Yea, Clayton is a little behind. This isn't news. Davis has said as much a couple times since the end of the season, but that he was promised by leadership (not sure if it was JR or someone else, have to think it was JR though) that he would be allowed to test free agency but the Panthers would try to resign him.

Good find...

I will never understand people's hate for Darin Gantt. The dude knows the Panthers better than the Panthers know themselves... (change all verbs to past tense)

It might have something to do with Gnatt alternating sucking off Richardson and Armanti Edwards.

In Gantt's opinion we are going to sign Davis long-term or release him to "do right by him". I like the fact that the Panthers treat people right, but this is one of those cases when I think we go too far.

We have a chance to see if Davis is still the same guy after two knee surgeries before we make a commitment to him or let him go play for someone else... the first priority should be to do right by the organization and in this case the right move is to let Davis play out his current contract and see how his knee holds up before we extend him or release him.
