Maybe the reason why we haven't heard about a possible Peppers trade?

:)

This line of thinking is why I said let him walk from the very beginning, tag Gross instead of locking him up long term, and avoid what I perceived inevitable from the very beginning.

We could have escorted him and a box of his stuff to the door and had a presser stating that it has been great but we are moving on. Many thanks to Pep. We then could have focused on EVERY free agent and trade opportunity from the very beginning instead of being handicapped throughout and not knowing what we have to work with or what areas to even focus on.

And I like most people wanted to get a return on our investment in Pep. But I now see the error in my ways. You were very wise sir.

I would never call myself "wise" but I appreciate your comments the same.

But it's too late now anyway and I just want it to end. I'd take a third from anybody if it could happen this week.

I think so too. The problem is time and opportunity. How much will pass and how many are we gonna miss while this pissing contest carries on?

Probably Fox/Hurney, something tells me Peppers/Carey don't have the sense for it...

The reason we havent heard about a Peppers trade is because Hurney thinks that if we keep him here, he'll want to stay..(i dont want him here even if he does change his mind)

and everything will be all happy and well

Hurney is like that old annoying exgirlfriend you use to have who just couldnt accept that it was over..

So you're saying that Beason, Stewart, Otah, Gross, DeAngelo Williams & Peppers were just flukes?... Get a life...

If we don't see Peppers moved in the next couple of days I don't forsee much happening until either right on, or just before draft day.

The FA and salary cap purging takes a while to fix internally so the capologists can figure out where money is going and whats contributing then. Plus other papers and all manners of other poo has to be done with the NFL.

If we don't see something before saturday, don't expect to see anything before the draft.

If we don't get anything for Pep before this saturday, I don't like our chances of adequately filling our Defensive line holes.

If Peppers signs the contract he loses his power, the team can then trade him anywhere, not just the 4 teams he is demanding, he's not gonna sign the tender

Well he doesn't lose that much if he signs the tender. The tender is only a one year contract. No team is going to trade for Peppers and give up significant draft picks unless a long term deal is in place. If Peppers refuses a contract he stays in Charlotte, tender signed or not.

What I am saying is that he will not sign the tender until a either a deal is in the works or it's last minute and he decides to play out the year. If he signs the contract now he loses the bargaining leverage of being able to pick and choose whichever team HE wants to go to.

He does not really lose the leverage if he signs the tender.

No team is going to offer anything of value to get Peppers for one season under a franchise contract. Even if he signs the tender, he would have to agree to a long term contract before the trade would be done.

So, in effect, he would still have alot of leverage and power in deciding where he played.

I wonder if he will sign the tender before the draft day only because he wants to be TRADED, and really the only way he is going to be traded is for draft picks.

The Panthers aren't going to just sit around and listen to offers from Pepper's agent. The Panthers will have a plan going into draft (what players they are targeting, what position they want to be in the draft, etc), so they need to be the one talking with other teams and orchestrating a deal.

I think the Pepper's camp knows this, just at this point they are all playing hardball.

Which gives Peppers even more leverage. If he does drag it out till camp it would still keep up from spending that Cap space on a replacement and we don't even know if he is going to be with the team. The more I think about it the more I am willing to take less for Pep. We either need to know he is going to stay or get him gone so we can pick up some FA's.

You are assuming that the Panthers would accept a trade that late in the game. If they are going into camp with no replacement for Peppers, they will nix the whole thing. Then Peppers has to decide to either sign the tender and get paid just under $17 million for a few months work or sit out the year and get nothing. Which do you think he will do?

Well, I think all of this could have been worked out last year. They could have signed Gross to a cheaper contract before he became an all pro pro bowl, big name LT. Then Peppers couldn't have put the team in the bind he did forcing them to work out a deal at the last minute with Gross so they could use the tag on Pep. The blame falls right on Hurney!
