Are we good at WR

Shockey is a solid TE. I think Rosario and Barnidge will come into their own this season as well.

Agree with the CB and DT comment, however.

We need somebody to catch the ball besides Smith. This has been the case for years, I mean back when Jake was pretty good. Shockey's nice, but I think we ought to look at more.

At CB, why are we not in the conversation for Asomugha?

Hi, my name is Steve, Steve Smith. You may know me as the only proven WR on the Carolina Panthers' team since Musin Muhammad and Ricky Proehl. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a free agent, and I am still under contract to perform for the Panthers. I know there's been plenty of talk of me leaving the team during this turbulent off season, but rest assured. I will be a Panther until I retire or the team decides to ship me off for draft picks (with Hurney's track record late ones). I love this establishment, and I'm ready to win. So lets make it happen, or as God is my witness I will find Ken Lucas and I'll beat him again.

Funniest poo I've seen on the huddle! That was truely awesome... The even funnier part... Smitty would actually say all of that!

i would only like a big name signing, no more dj hacketts.

Does Keyshawn count?

Gotta admit I was pumped when we signed him. I remember his first gig on ESPN was the 2007 draft and he was so excited that we drafted Dwayne Jarrett since he played for USC. Kept going on and on about how great a reciever Jarrett was and how he was going to mentor him.

We cut Keyshawn the next day, and the rest is history...

You can slam our WRs, but how good would they have looked if a decent OC was designing and calling the plays last year? Or if Peyton Manning was throwing the ball?

The offense last year was bad, but it took a team effort to make it as bad as it was. All of the QBs were terrible, the WRs were largely young and inexperienced, and the coaching staff was fairly bland and disengaged.

It's not just the WRs. EVERYONE will look better this year. How could they look worse?

Looking at your WRs, it's a virtual parallel to where we were around 07-08

Your vet (Smith-McCardell)

2 young guys, one that you have much higher hopes for (Gettis-Jackson, LaFell-Floyd)

a ST ace that you're not sure how he'll fit in the WR spot (Wright or Martin-Osgood)

a young one who has played little that you're wondering why you used that pick on them (Armanti-Davis)

I could go further and add the 2nd rounder that you jettisoned after they didn't pan out (Jarrett-Caldwell)

So stay the course with your young guys and let them grow with Cam.

I would say the only major difference is that you had an elite vet QB working with the young guys where we do not. Rookie QB's + inexperienced WR's are a bad combination. A rookie QB needs experienced WR's to help him along.

I like the way you guys think and now that the lockout is finally over, we'll get to see what happens. But I would definitely like to see Smitty stay and Gettis step up to #2although I do believe that Cam can only be helped by the presence of a veteren receiver, in addition to Smitty, that will keep track of where Cam is and break his route to help him out as he rolls out of the pocket.

I know one thing for sure....I'm ready for some Football!

Is Smith saying he's unhappy at Carolina? There was a period there where everyone was say saying he wanted out, but I haven't heard that for awhile.

That said, I wouldn't blame him one bit if he wanted out of this mess and to play out his remaining prime with a competitive team. I sort of wish he would go - Smith is too damn good to languish his few remaining years with an irrelevant team that has no ability to get him the ball.

I wouldn't say "no ability to get him the ball" although in the past few years that would be true. I believe that Cam will be able to get him the ball, however there is a learning curve that Cam will go through. That curve maybe why Smith feels that he should leave. I don't blame him for wanting to better pad/stat his career but I'd love to see him play his career here in Carolina. And another veteren WR would help that. I don't wish he would go and don't believe that he really wants to go, I think he feels he has to for his career and if he does, he'd still be my favorite WR in the NFL. If he doesn't, he won't bring trouble to the locker room, Steve's a baller, He Will Ball!

    • That should count for 2 TDs.  His hands were bad coming out of college--and they have improved.  I was a TE in college, and to me, the toughest catches were the ones that were coming straight towards you.  I would rather catch running and looking over one shoulder when you have a dominant hand in the process.  In fairness, others liked catching passes with their thumbs together in their chest.  I dunno.
