Carolina Panthers:

Need 1 - DT

Need 2 - TE

Need 3 - DE

TE? Our #2 need? Really?

My take: DT, CB, DT--Sure, we have 2 third round rookies at DT and Neblett. I am not sure anyone else on the roster (not a free agent) would make a team anywhere. But even if we sign a veteran, we still need a force inside. Expecting a 3rd rounder to start is lofty expectations. Fua and Neblett at the 1 technique? Is that the plan? I do not mind McClain and Mebane or Cofield at the 3. I think we will end up with Mike Patterson, DT from Philly--mark my words!

I would agree with DT at # 1 since it looks like the best DT's we have on the roster at the moment are both rookies... but I would say CB is our next most pressing need given the uncertainly related to both our current starting CB's and our lack of depth beyond Munnerlyn (who is best suited to play the nickel).

Shockey when healthy is still an above average TE and both Rosario and Barnidge are sleepers, either one could have a break out year in this new TE-oriented offense.

I would rate our 3rd need as QB, right now we only have a rookie and two 2nd year players (one of which posted a 58 rating and the other has not played) under contract. Cam may be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but given the transition he's making and the abbreviated off-season he probably won't be ready to play week 1, so we need a vet who can hold the fort until Cam is ready and things are going to get ugly early if all we have is Clausen or Pike to hold the fort.

This whole thing is very fluid...if we cant resign Johnson I would think DE would jump to the top of the list. There's no way I want hardy and brown lining up at end on a regular basis. Also if smitty is traded I would think WR would be number two or one. I like Gettis and Lafell but Newton still needs a veteran receiver to throw to. I think if we trade smith then all the rumors about Rice start to sound very appealing. We would have a ton of bigger receivers who can run like Chud saw in San diego.

If we resign everyone (except marshall) and keep smith I think the needs are easily what everyone on here believes as the top three...DT, CB, and a vet QB. Maybe adding a piece to the offensive line would be nice it's not a priority.
