Pro Football Talk: Gamble to get cut?

One reason Marshall was so picked on was because Gamble was avoided. However, he will make a bunch of $$ next year and the JJ 4-3 CB is a tackler as a general stereotype. PFT is terrible, but Florio knows if he stirs the hornet's nest it increases the traffic on his site. However, you cannot think that Gamble is earning his salary, regardless of whether he is the best we have. We drafted an injured CB who could spend the year on IR and be in jail by 2012. Gamble will not be going anywhere, but his days are numbered.

Well, technically everyone's days are numbered. :)

what

did you not watch last season.....the games Captain started late in the year was better CB play than what Gamble was showing in 2010. Gambles prior seasons got nothing to do w/ my statement/observation.

Don't think we'll let Gamble or Marshall go (unless Marshall demands silly $ to stay) because we don't have anyone behind them that's ready to step into a starting role.

New coaching staff = clean slate, I think Rivera will want to work with these guys a little bit before he makes any moves.

well, you don't think Godfrey is garbage in coverage anymore.....so clearly we view coverage differently.

I mean Gamble has some favorable numbers as far as seeing little action....but IMO that has little to do w/ Gamble being good and more to do with HUGE liabilites like Marshall and Godfrey sitting out there for QBs to abuse.

I don't think Captain is a better corner and didn't say that.....I think in 2010 Captain played better than Gamble which was sad when asked to start. Gamble underperformed and was a little bitch in addition in 2010(which is why he went to the bench).

Gamble is a first rounder, our best corner, and is exactly the kind of corner that we need for a McDermott type zone blitz defense. There is no way he gets cuts unless he slows down or gets injured. We just signed him to a long term contract. His days are numbered, the number is 60 million. When his contract is over, he might be gone. But until then, no way. I really don't get where some of these publications gets their damn fool ideas.

This..

“First we want to be very aggressive and (general manager) Marty Hurney and his team have a plan and when we get the green light we will be going wide open,” - Jerry Richardson

That would mean cutting Gamble as soon as FA starts or sooner. You dont fire proven employees after they have been put into a chitty situation where they were obviously doomed to fail.

Aso isnt going to be that much better than Gamble and even if he was it would not have a big enough impact to make the differance in taking us to the playoffs this year or the next. If thats the case and he's really on his downhill slide three years from now. . .then why are we talking about Aso at all?

Im so grateful that we will have grown so much from this thread. Not even a discussion from Fiz and CRA was entertaining on this subject.
