Shouldn't Williams be around $6MM per, then Kalil like $8MM per, then CJ like $11 per then Anderson maybe $4MM per then extend Beason to $6MM per? Is that close? That gets us around $5-$10MM for free agents?

I would Cum if we could get cj for 11 dollars a year xD

IMO...

Williams will get b/t 7-8 per with a cap# around 5m for this year

Kalil will get about 8 per, counting near 6m this year

CJ will probably cost us 14-16 per to keep, probably about 10-12m for '11

Anderson no more than 6 per or we let him walk, 4m this year

TD will get about 4 per, counting 3m in '11

Rookies will run us about 6m

Leaving us 6m or so below the floor about 15m below the cap. We won't be in the Aso sweepstakes, but we will be able to bring in some guys who can play.

Latest numbers from ESPN say the Panthers are 10th in the league in Cap room at 30.6 million

What this means is that the teams salary is currently at 73 million or 83 million depending on Kalil's Franchise tag. While currently the Panthers sit at 90 million for cap hit.

You add Kalil's contract to that and the Panthers will be at 100 million for a cap hit, needing to spend around 40 million dollars and only having roughly 20 million in room to do so.

Tampa Bay 59.2... with a good young core, holy hell....

NFC South will be the toughest division in the NFL, and I say that with 0 bias.

That article is incorrect. By all other accounts, we have 47-57 Million in cap room.

They factored in our Franchise Tag into that article, but declined to do so for the other teams. Meaning we have the 2nd most cap room in the NFL.

The sad part about all of this is that you're probably pretty close on your numbers...

The REALLY sad part is that you didn't include Cam or ANY draft picks' salaries... Which according to your #'s means that we're FUGGED! You also left out Thomas Davis...

I guess we'll see how it all pans out though.

Edit: I believe that the 40 mil will only get us to the cap floor though right? We're gonna have to spend major loot to retain our core guys, sign rookies, and snag a FA or two...

For the record... It doesn't look good

The number is simply a starting point anyway--the Panthers are already pretty sure of what they are offering their core, what it will take to sign the rookies, and what they will spend on CB, QB, and DT in free agency. However, there are some other factors. Trading Steve Smith, cutting veterans like Brayton, Gamble (probably not this year, but I imagine this will be his last unless his game starts matching his check), etc. Could create a lot more room.

To me, whiile the money is there, I would rather spend it on long extensions for Kalil and Beason--possibly Connor should Rivera like him. I have to think that is part of what they mean when they say core. I do not see DeAngelo getting re-signed, but then again, who knows.

Finally, having some money in hand to wait and watch the waiver wire. There will be many high quality players cut to make cap room. Dallas, Denver--Houston is switching to a 3-4, so 4-3 people are going to be sent packing.

1. Re-sign C. Johnson

2. Sign a DT

3. SIgn a CB

4. Extend Beason and Kalil

5. Re-sign Davis

6. Re-sign Anderson

7. Re-sign DeAngelo

8. Sign veteran QB

9. Trade Steve Smith

10. Look for value getting cut

Everyone stop pooting your fuging pants and look at this.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcsouth/tag/_/name/2011-salary-cap-room

In terms of money already committed toward a 2011 cap (rookie contracts aren’t a factor yet because teams haven’t even been allowed to negotiate with draft picks), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the lowest figure in the league. They’re sitting at $63.8 million.

The Carolina Panthers are just a bit ahead of the Bucs at $73 million.

We will have roughly 47 to 57 Million to throw around. After signing our own FA, that will be down to about 15 to 25 Million for free agents.

I do not see us re-signing all players. I think you are fairly close on the numbers, but the first year of deals are usually lower than the contract average. We are probably trading Steve Smith (+7,5 million) we are probably cutting Tyler Brayton ($2-3 million)--that alone is enough to sign Cam and all the rookies.

We are in good shape. My concern? That we do not take advantage of the cash we have and extend Beason and Kalil. If we do that know, we have our core locked up for a while. No big contracts for 2012 or 2013.

I look for numbers like this going into 2011:

Anderson $4m

Davis $3-4 m

Kalil -$4 m (minus $4 million because they are already charging us $10 m for him)

Beason $5 m (added to his existing salary)

CJ $9 m

DW (if we re-sign him, which I doubt) $6m

Free agent DT $8m

Free agent CB $7m

That is $35 million.

What to do with the other $5 m+? Wait. Many players will be cut. There will be some value we have not predicted.

Newton will be getting a base 4 year deal worth 22 million dollars, with a 5th year option worth 13 million. 12 million of that 22 million will be guaranteed. 5.5 million per average through the first 4 years of the deal. The rest of the rookies will probably take 7 million total.

As for the players MH's numbers above are pretty close, unless the Panthers structure the deals really well. They probably won't have a whole bunch of money left over for FA, unless they let some players walk.
