NBA = STUPID. CBA Negotiations On Hold Until August

Probably the last chance to have a whole season was lost yesterday with the negotiation breakdown. Although they are still hopefull for a partial season, I just don't see it. Here is summary of what each side wants.

The last CBA had the players getting about 57% of the revenue and the teams had a soft cap.

The players offered to lower their share to 54% if the soft cap is kept in place.

The owners demand a hard cap and only give the players about 45% of the revenue.

The players countered saying they will accept a hard cap but then they want 65% of the revenue.

That is a huge gap and I doubt they make progress until next spring or summer. The 2012 draft could be in jeporday which would be good for college teams like Kentucky and Carolina since they may get to keep their stars one more year.

There won't be a season this year....but the players will crack next summer

It's already happening, based on reports from the street games > hardly anyone is watching. No major company would fund a larger tour for the major stars, the money overseas is considerably lower.

Stern's stance combined with Hunter losing control or the situation doesn't help matters much for the players.

You would think with the growth, popularity, and value of the NFL that it would influence the other leagues to adopt strict salary caps, strict revenue sharing and the like. The MLB is by far the worst financial structure and the NBA isn't far behind right now.

If it takes a year to sort out a revenue sharing and salary cap system that promotes growth league wide...then I'm all for it. But, to push to get a deal done to save games and continue with a similar system would be a knee jerk decision. The NBA model works for the short term with huge mega teams and dynasties..but has proven that it weakens the league long term.

I love the bcats and would hate to see a season lost...but if it means in 3 years we will be legit contendors (given good drafting, GM and front office operations) with league wide parity...lets do it.

That's just it, that's the problem with the NBA and MLB. The players are way too greedy and refuse to take a hard cap because it cuts down on max deals that are worth 90+ million.

It's a shame, but the owners have already agreed to drop the hard cap proposal and are willing to go back to the soft cap with a stricter luxury tax.

Yeah, I think the stricter luxury tax is an improvement in theory..but is only a short term bandage. The luxury tax would have to be astronomical to work and to scare the richest teams away.

I don't really care, the owners gave up on the hard cap. I don't want the NBA back with out that hard cap or a really high lux tax. Say for every dollar over the limit you have to pay back 4 dollars.

Cool, so you like watching mediocrity...

Bosh in toronto

Wade alone in miami

Pierce alone in Boston

KG alone in Minnestoa

Allen alone in Seattle

Yep we love watching stars play on teams surrounded by mediocre talent... Because the star players are going to get their money regardless... Only thing is, now teams won't be able to surround their superstars with great talent because of a harder cap.
