Stewart wants us to hang on to Williams

I'm sorry, but I think a bunch of people ITT are full of shiit.

You guys know that Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo are really good friends right? Jonathan isn't saying he wants DeAngelo to stay just to be a nice guy or a good teammate, he probably means it genuinely. How does DeAngelo staying not benefit Jonathan? By splitting carries, not only is it more likely that he'll be fresher throughout the duration of the season, but also more likely that his career will be prolonged.

Which brings me to the "DeAngelo is 28" argument. He's been splitting carries his entire freakin' career! DeAngelo probably has the legs of a 26 year old RB due to the fact that he hasn't had to be the 25-30 carries/pg guy. The fact that DeAngelo is here helps Jonathan and the fact that Jonathan is here helps DeAngelo. And we see the results on the football field.

DeAngelo has said time and time again that he wants to be a Panther. Why, honestly, would a FA say that if they didn't mean it? If they do say that, they're telling 31 other teams that they prefer to stay with their home team. If they don't say that, they're telling 31 other teams "COME AND GET ME!" So why would players just say that to blow smoke up fans' asses?

At their best, we're talking about quite possibly THE most talented running back duo in the entire NFL and why people are so quick to give that up is so far beyond me especially considering the support they can provide for Cam and his development. Yes, we have a stable of running backs, but you need to lay down the pipe if you think we can replace Williams with Goodson or Sutton.

Williams wants to be a Panther, Jonathan wants him to be a Panther, and he needs to be a Panther.

It prevents Stewart from achieving his goals in the NFL which he has stated his goals before. These guys didn't get to where they were b/c they wanted to just be part of good teams.....they also wanted to be the best. Stewart will never know how good he is and will never get a chance to prove it spending his entire prime as the 2nd fiddle.

If you are as good as some of these players you eventually want the job of being THE guy. If Stewart never gets to be THE guy.....he won't get a shot to really prove a lot about what kind of RB he really could of been.

No doubt Stewart enjoys playing w/ DWill.....but I don't think he will be heartbroken if they split. They can sing karaoke and play paintball together even if on different teams.

Wasn't comparing the two, just using him as a local example. If you want someone from the same position and similar skill set..Michael Turner. He wanted out of San Diego and was able to land a lucrative deal.

Turner didn't want out, he wanted a big contract. Pep was vocal about it, and even turned down the largest defensive contract offered in the NFL, Turner did no such thing.

But that isn't exactly the same scenario.....he wasn't happy where he was. He wanted to play. I am not saying that every player used the " I want to be here angle"....but players that are willing to stay or leave letting the best deal dictate it aren't going to claim they don't want to stay and be a (insert team).

Don't buy into the number of carries vs. age thing. The RB wants to show you how few carries he has gotten, and therefore has "young" legs. Look at history, and how sharp the decline is after 30 for RB's.

If I were a GM I would be asking the question. If you are worth what you say you are, (featured back $$$) I don't need you splitting carries, nor do I need to be paying Stew.

We have a qualified HB in Stew, and a 3rd down back, we don't need two no. 1's.

That's probably what you THINK an NFL player thinks like, but that doesn't make it true.

Show me where Jonathan has said his goals, and then tell me how DeAngelo being on the team prevents him from reaching said goals.

And if that's really true, if we re-sign DeAngelo we'll know what Jonathan thinks about it in 2 years when he becomes a UFA.

When he was drafted he stated what he wanted to be in the NFL.....you can't achieve that not being THE guy for a bulk of your career. I will try to find it.

I mean if you were a player (or have played)...would you prefer to play 8 years and be pretty good or play 5 and be great?

People here need to understand what we have in Jonathan Stewart a little better. He is a bulldozer and made to be a workhorse moreso than many runningbacks in the league today. Im sick of this "he's injury prone bullshit", fact is, Stew has yet to miss a regular season game in his career due to injury. Oh and just so you guys know, this is the first offseason he hasn't battled any injuries or had to come back from surgery. He's only going to get better people, and if we lose Deangelo it will suck, but only because Deangelo is THAT GOOD, not because Stewart isn't up to par. He is.

also, Stewart and Williams have played 3 years together....people tend to overlook Stewart has been the better RB 2 of those 3.

The best RB in 2008 in Carolina was named DeAngleo......the best RB in Carolina is now Stewart. Don't need to spend a ton of cash to keep the 2nd best RB.

Last year was as close to being "THE" guy that Jonathan Stewart has come in his career. He also posted the worst numbers of his entire career. Yeah, I know last year isn't the typical season, but in 14 games, including 7 starts, he only put up 770 yards and 2 TD. He lost twice as many fumbles as he scored touchdowns last year.

Don't take that to mean I don't think Jonathan can't get the job done. I certainly think he can. I'd venture so far as to say that even without DeAngelo, if our RB corps is just Stewart, Goodson and Sutton, we still have one of the better RB groups in the NFL.

I'm just saying that Jonathan Stewart's success is not guarateed by DeAngelo's departure as some are being lead to believe.

damn guys is it so hard to say you'll be contempt either way?

I know I will. Dwill is great to keep on the team but we could lose him too and it wouldn't hurt at all really and there are other needs.

What does make me angry is the fact we didn't trade more so than whether he leaves or not but unfortunately that seems to be the panther's style.

I've never heard so much bullshit conjecture trying to be pawned off as fact..

I'm shocked by some of you, and others just look like a complete joke.

I can get with this..

oh, and the dude trying to compare Goodson to Reggie Bush.. how obvious it is that all you fans have your little box and cannot think outside of it; in other words, see poo for what it is instead of classify it incorrectly..

Yeah, if we start adding names to the list with Peppers on it of top tier players we just let walk gaining nothing in return.......the media needs to do a better job blasting the front office. I mean imagnie if Johnson leaves.....in 2 seasons a 4-3 team would have let probably 2 top 5 4-3 DEs just walk out the door.

So what about 2009?

DeAngelo Williams:

216 Att for 1,117 yards

5.2 yard average, 7 rushing TD

29 receptions with 252 yards

Jonathan Stewart:

221 Att for 1,133 yards

5.1 yard average, 10 rushing TD

18 recpetions for 139 yards.

I fail to see how Jonathan was any better or worse than DeAngelo.

And last year DeAngelo was out 10 games, so I don't get why you'd even include that one.

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
