Stewart wants us to hang on to Williams

I know right. Everywhere I look I see a guy that can pick up a 1000 yards splitting carries 50/50 and is a threat to take it to the house on any play. The league is full of those guys , poo we got two on the bench just waiting.

Having 2 1000 yard rusher really is more about what Fox did that year and Carolina in general. Other teams could probably pull that off......but most teams realize that ain't how you win football games in today's NFL.

Plenty of NFL teams could draft 2 1st round RBs in 3 seasons and give them 200+ carries each w/ a joke passing game. No one else in the NFL is going to do that....it is a passing league.

I was fairly certain, though, that it had been discussed in the thread about cap room that we should be able to re-sign all of our "core" players and still have room to fill those other needs...

Perhaps I missed something.

I don't think signing DeAngelo is going to be the one thing preventing us from filling those other needs. Hurney and Rivera have openly identified their target positions in FA and if they feel like they can re-sign DeAngelo and fill those needs, that's what they're going to do.

Obviously our "Core" players are different.

I don't think that we need two no. 1 RB's, nor does the rest of the league.

Players I would resign tomorrow. Beason, Kalil, Johnson, in that order.

After that I would take a long look at some interior D linemen, and a rush DE, since it looks like EB is a bust. Then comes the O line and the Defensive Backfield.

After all of that I would look to resign a player that fans love, but does not equate to winning ball games.

Yea, last season sure proved that.

Tampa, Green Bay, Houston, etc.......

Willie Parker had 1 good season with Jerome Bettis. TJ Duckett? You're reaching now. His best season is 779 yards in a year where Warrick Dunn only had 672. James Stewart only had 1 good season (931 yards) in a year where Fred taylor only had 732. And Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes played 1 season together in Baltimore in a year that Priest had 506 yards.

I'm talking about having 2 feature backs, not just two mediocre running backs splitting carries.

I thought maybe we could have a decent debate, but you're just flinging poo at the wall now hoping that it sticks.

yea I'm the one who's throwing poo at the wall

"you know you know deangelo's legs are like the legs of a back, like, 2 years younger man. I know this because i know the number of carries it takes to for a player to have 28 year old legs and with deangelo it just doesn't add up"

.

basically if you're at the point where you're trying to get 2 no.1 backs on a team thinking it's necessary to have a productive running game, you're behind the curve

Well, losing Williams doesnt mean we lose our entire running game and this offense is accustomed to running the ball effectively without him being there anyway, judging by the last two seasons.

He'd definitely be nice to have back, but the nfl is changing, we're adjusting accordingly, and we have bigger priorities to address than a platoon rb whom half our fanbase has an inflated opinion of due to being irrational homers who just happen to own his jersey. He's not a quarterback, a pass rusher, or a key lineman; he plays the most disposable position in sports and his replacement is already on the roster and has shown he's probably better going forward.

He missed three games the season before. He could've came back last season if there was anything worth playing for. How are we used to not having him? Last year was the 1st time we played significant time without him and didn't look too good I might add Stewart and Goodson combined for a whooping 5 touchdowns and 1222 yards. Should I bring up more "facts" and remind of what the Double Trouble combo stats look like or is 09/10 too long ago.

Been saying that forever.

We have the best run game in the league is what everyone says.....well, how's our record? How many playoff games have we won?

Running the ball is great, but that isn't what is winning games right now in the NFL.

I am all for keeping Double Trouble together. With a new coaching staff, hopefully improved offense, etc.... I can see them both getting 1100+ yards in a season again.

Then Cam Newton is a bust and our offense still is behind the rest of the league.....

lol so Jerome Bettis (who's had more 1,000 yard rushing seasons than DeAngelo), Willie Parker (ditto), Warrick Dunn (ditto), Priest Holmes (ditto) are all mediocre. Oh wait there's another thing 3 of the 4 guys i just mentioned in the last sentence have done that DeAngelo hasn't and that is prove they are durable enough to carry the ball 300+ times.
