Solving that Corner Back Problem..

Recommended Posts

With the acquisition of Brandon Hogan, many think that this teams ailment at the CB position has been cured. I for one, don't believe so. Hogan can help but I'm not too informed on how well he's recovering from his surgery. Anyone have information about him? He's still a solid CB, glad he's on board.

I will try to be as realistic as possible, we are not winning the Nammdi sweepstakes.

I am 50-50 on Jonathan Joseph as well. Simply because other teams, like us, will probably pounce on this guy when others will be trying for Nammdi. I will supply names of some CB's that I believe the Panthers would go after. He is the one CB that I would want out of all of them because of his ability, his carolina ties, and he's a very very good, YOUNG, CB.

Josh Wilson, Fabian Washington and Chris Carr, Baltimore. I'm watching this situation, Baltimore has depth at this position. They just took Smith in the first round. I really believe that we can ****** of these dependable backs from them. Either one if fine with me actually. If I had to chose. I'd take Wilson. Mainly because he has a nose for the end zone when he picks off QB's. Followed by Chris Carr, then F. Washington.

Antonio Cromartie, personally I think he's slightly better than Richard Marshall, but he's a #2 CB to be honest. Next to Gamble we'd have a good backfield.

Carlos Rogers, Another player that I would give the slight edge over Marshall, but he's 30 and has Health Issues. This bothers me, but when the guy is healthy he's legit.

Eric Wright, Yes. A Brownie. Physically he's talented, but he remind me a lot of Richard Marshall. Changing teams could potentially make him flourish. Proper Coaching can do this. He's still Young, which is always a plus.

The Panthers could also go the Undrafted Free Agent Route.

Kendric Burney, The tarheel that really surprised me when I never heard his name called during the draft. This may be the homer in me, but I saw all the UNC games last year and even thought the guy is slow for a CB. He has the starter potential. Although it would be like having two Captains, except that Captain is fast as hell. You never know we could find a gem with this guy. Nickle packages would be his deal though. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Ryan Jones, Another Cover guy. 5-11, good size. Decent Speed. Needs work on back pedaling but that can be fixed. Small school guys always have a chip on their shoulders.

Antareis Bryan, 6-2, 190 pounds. Decent speed. He's had a nagging hamstring injury, but nothing extremely serious. The Packers worked him out. They have been lucky lately with finding diamonds in the rough. I don't see why we can't give this guy a shot as well. Personally I like CB's to be this guys size.

Richard Marshall. Yes, re-sign the guy, maybe the new blood coming is may bolster his attitude. He's a serviceable Pro. If he can look at things from a better perspective, he could turn things around.

This, to me is one of the top positions that should be filled. Next to DT and WR. That's my proverbial 0.02 on the matter.

Like the thought put into this. I'm not as fond of the Raven CBs. They took a chance with Jimmy Smith because their current CBs are a little lacking (in my opinion). I also like Rogers a little more than you I think. My #1 realistic preference is Joseph, but I'd be ok with any of those vet options. Would be worth it to give a good long look at any of those undrafted rookies too. Remember, Asomugha isn't fast either but he's a damn good CB. Burney could be of the same mold.

And you always have the best sig gifs, Ivan.

Our cornerback problem will never be fully solved until Gamble is no longer our no. 1, but if the additions to our line step up and we get solid play outta the front seven, I think we can make it through the year reasonably well. Then we can solve the secondary next offseason.

I agree. Although, don't you think the WR class next off season will be better than the CB class? In next years draft we could potentially solve the WR or CB #1 problem. I don't know about both.

You make a good point, and depending on whether or not we see positive steps from our young WR's this year, I definitely favor solidifying that position over CB. I just feel like they will be making DT a priority this year, and I think the CB's will be snapped up pretty quickly. I definitely hope we're in the running for Joseph, maybe Rogers. I just don't think we'll come out on top. I'm in favor of taking care of the trench positions, seeing how well the QB sitch develops, and then hopefully we're in a place where we can add some playmakers in key positions on offense and in our secondary to make a run at the division.

What are people's thoughts on Captain Munnerlyn? I thought he showed flashes last year, I love his physicality and how he plays with a chip on his shoulder; but can he realistically be more than a nickel for us?

I don't believe so.

He's basically a poor man's Brent Grimes. Though Captain is physical, he simply isn't strong or athletic enough to overcome his stature.

He's a great player for what he his but I believe the coaching staff realizes his natural limitations.

I think it will come down to Rivera' priority of position/need and money.Lets say we have 73 million and we know we must sign our rookies.I suppose our first prioritiy is CJ and other FA,s of value.I have no idea what the coaches feel we need but I will be very disappointed if we do not pick up a starter a cb but we will see.I know e want a DT as well.
