Yeah the 200k wasn't really for the guy who made $5m last year. He will be fine either way even if he has to sell some assets.

I doubt that. A lot of these players are fools with their money. Some of these guys are broke after they have been out of the league about 3 years, despite the fact that they made millions. There was a segment on Real Sports about this very thing. $200,000 is nothing to them.

I had heard that this revalation was what accelerated the agreement. the player's premise was that the lockout was hurting the player's irreparably. With the revelation that Smith had secretly gone out and obtained insurance. Something he didn't disclose to the judge when he was claiming how they were wronged and wanting damages for the TV deal the owner's made secretly. Maybe it is me but this seems to be the same situation with the exception that the owner's deal reportedly benefited them to the detriment of the players while insurance doesn't injure the pwner. Still with that kind of money the player's can hardly claim the lockout would damage them at least in the short term. But by all accounts this revelation was the impetus for all the substantial movement in the past day or two.

Actually I think most are pretty responsible with their money. Most players get labeled because of the foolery of the few.

No. That was a different fund that the NFLPA had set aside to pay each player (50,000 I think). This is an insurance policy. Two different funds.

Nah I'm pretty sure the article I was reading was talking about D-Smith mentioning insurance for the players if the season isn't played not the fund you are mentioning. If it was important I'd find it, but it's not.

If this were common knowledge it would not have been abig story last week, would not have pushed the talks along, and would have been discussed ad nauseum instead of recently. So I would be surprised if it were already know to the owners.
