there are really only two in my wife's whole family that do it. she thanked me for my patience over the past weekend, and then asked me how i was as we were coming back yesterday. i told her i could really use a beer and bowl.

i know they think it makes the child smile and laugh, but i seriously get the same reactions talking to her in a normal voice. it reeeaally gets on my nerves. so much so that i leave the room, because telling them to stop is going to pit me against everyone else.

and yes they do it with the dogs as well.

My buddy's wife does it, I walk away... Ask them why they use the same voice for your daughter as they do for the dog, that should put a stop to it.. and done right nobody can get pissed for you callin it out like that...I never spoke to either of my kids with baby-talk. They never learned it, and both my kids speak very well for their ages...

I hear you man, that kind of stuff annoys the crap out of me too...

My MiL visited yesterday and she literally talked the ENTIRE time I was watching the world cup match yesterday... non-stop for over 2 hours, and I maybe said two words to her...

i don't want them to talk to my dogs that way either. so maybe i'll ask them to talk to both the dogs and the child the same way they speak to me.

That is a huge reason, like I said above.. My niece was brought up the same way, both parents and her never used baby talk. Then she went to preschool and brought it home. It took a few weeks to get her to stop...

same thing happened with me and my brother when we were frequently around other kids at nursery school. it drove dad crazy, and he really fussed at us about it, and helped us realize how bad it sounds.
