Sales Jobs

My company typically only hires engineers or people with at least 8 years experience in the industry for our Outside Sales positions.

We sell plastics (raw materials, parts, etc) but a lot of what we do is engineering assistance. Replacing metal, making parts last longer, etc.

Our outside sales also get a pretty nice base salary on top of their commission, though.

Bankers Life and Casualty Company

My roommate worked for them after graduating. They're going to make you pay for your own insurance licenses, which will cost you a few hundred dollars. I think my roommate paid around $400 for his.

He worked there for about 4 months and did not make any sales.

They'll ask you to first exploit friends and family.

There is no base salary, the salary they quote in their job description is what an 'average' sales person makes their first year.

If you like cold calling and visiting old retired people and trailer parks, then its a great job for you.

If you have a family and need a dependable income, you should run the other way as fast as possible.

1st, you're roommate got ripped the f**k off  your license shouldn't cost anything close to that. I can't remember the exact number, but something about $60 to get licensed with the state. most companies will cover the cost of classes that are required before you take the state exam (which is $120 at the most, and even that is highly expensive.. last one I took was $80, but my company paid for it)

also, if he didn't sell anything in 4 months, then he f**ked up big time somewhere along the line.. that or had absolutely no social skills.

although, the company probly is shitty.. I don't know anything about them.

I know the process, they all are the same except good companies will hold your hand and put money in your pocket..

only other thing I'd add is 100% commission jobs aren't meant for the employee mentality.. you can tell those who get it and those who don't.. you either grab the world by the balls or get run over..

Pretty accurate. In my line it isn't about budgeting, or getting a pension, or a nice retirement after 30 years, it's about making yourself wealthy.

Is it risky, yup, but it's very rewarding.
