i'm mad cuz you get a lake house

well, the offer is in...but it's been really slow trying to sell our place...so the lake house is still far from being ours.

you can come visit next time you are on your period and we can hug it out.

Yeah and who in their right mind would work for an insurance company? ;)

a loooot of money can be made in life insurance.. 90% commissions on 80-125/month premium ain't bad, usually comes with a 12 month advance.. should be able to get 2-4 of those a week by simply going to work every day..

my point was the almost bait and switch tactic they pulled instead of just saying "life insurance".. lol

mortgage protection is another example..

just got the email from the recruiter.

...an insurance company that specializes in products designed to help people with the finances and planning of retirement.

also mentions the pay which would be a big cut for me. i'm gonna have to politely decline the interview, and keep working at finding something.

yeah most every sales position you'll be called about is going to be entry level since you have no sales experience(I assume). Those positions are probably in the 20-30K base range if you get a base at all. If you are used to budgeting on an engineer salary this will be a pay cut and if you have payments on poo impossible to do. You probably only want a sales job in engineer/tech sales in the industry you're in now. Because you actually have to have some knowledge of the product they will pay more base.

From what I've learned working with salesmen it doesn't matter what they pay you base or what type of sales you get into you will have 3 months tops to be selling more than you're costing(making quota). So that's the most important thing to think about if you are considering making the change.

The sales guys that work at my company sell commercial sized solar energy systems. They only close 2-3 sales per year, but most make six figures because the sales are pretty high dollar. They're also all retarded. Commercial solar sales itself. They have the easiest jobs in the world.

not as low as you say, but still quite a cut for me, and since I am currently the sole income for my family I can't take it.

The average agent starting in this position makes between 35-40K their first year. The position is commission based but as you might know insurance sales are slightly different because you do build a base on your renewals. It is an entry level position so training is provided by our company.

key to sales in the beginning.. a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, so go get your nut.. regardless of how bad you are, if you put in the work, you'll find someone dumb enough to buy from you..

eventually you'll gain an understanding of the sales process..

obviously there are people just horrible at sales and shouldn't ever apply, but I can't think of one person who I've seen fail when they put in the work and had some level of social awareness..

also, they are saying that's the average salary because most people jump from a desk job to essentially running their own business, resulting in many people being overwhelmed with the simple task of going to work everyday..

I can't tell you how many people will sit in front of a computer and spend 4 or 5 hours doing busy work.. i.e., intuitively analyze leads/contacts/referrals (hilarious concept really), create spreadsheets, read emails, print out spreadsheets, make coffee, highlight spreadsheets, drink 4 cups of coffee, organize spreadsheets, jittery from coffee-take lunch, and then wonder why they are making poo for money...

heck yeah!

My husband sells..he kicks ass at it..and we..I mean, he's getting a giant ass commission check at the end of this month and a fat one next month too.... :)

I guess it depends on what you sell and if you like selling it as to how well you're gonna do

I was an engineer for IBM for 16 years. I took the last buy out and started a construction company with a friend of mine. (I'll never do that again!) I helped build the company up from nothing and it's still going today. (I sold out in 1999.)

I went into design of die cast collectible cars. The company let a couple of their salesmen go who just weren't producing. They asked if I would just take phone orders until they could find replacements. Within 2 months, I was outselling their top sales man! (He got so mad, he quit after about 6 months of being #2!) I landed the Corvette Museum in Kentucky, (a client that other's had gone after in our building.) The gift shop manager called me one day and placed a single order for over $20K! (That's why he quit.) I was getting a regular check + small commission check once a month. My commission check always paid my mortgage with some "fun money" left over.

I went into real estate sale after that an within the second year, I was a million dollar producer. (Then I injured my back and it all came crashing down.)

Find the right commission structure, believe in the product, and be naturally outgoing (Something I had to teach myself. I was never a real "people person".) Also, no matter what you think of Trump, read his book, "Art of the Deal"! AND be prepared to work long hours, including weekends!

NEVER! Sell insurance. For every one who makes it, there are 99 who don't! Copiers/Business Machines are another one to stay away from. Lousy commission structure.

Sale positions that can be good: Home Improvement/Repair. In times like these, people tend to fix their home rather than buy. Home Protection is another good one. (CPI, ADT, etc) But you have to be willing to play on people's fear. (Everytime the newpaper has an article about a neighborhood break-in, robery, rape. You have to be prepared to send a copy of that article to everyone in the neighborhood with your business card!)

    • And meanwhile as we sit here comparing dart throwers, we were one pick from thjs https://x.com/lafullybolted/status/1869949048150503705?s=46&t=JBd6ZXmGQ3LmWL-ineTnAA Hurney knew.
    • When we do surgery to remove a glio, no one says the surgeons are trying to make the brain fail.  the best, actually realistic thing for the panthers as an organization, in the near, medium, and long term, is for Bryce to flame out as quickly and definitively as possible.  they’re never getting anything out of him, the picks are gone. Rip the bandaid off.
    • The other thing about bo is he is the same player in the pros he was in college. He was absolutely a screen mechanic and left for Oregon because you can’t really have success playing qb like that at auburn. They just can’t recruit the players unless they out pay everyone else for cam newton.  Bryce in college was touted as a guy who could make throws to all three levels, hit the whole route tree, brilliant tactician who was “running team meetings,” etc. it’s pretty clear by now Bryce can’t consistently make the throws he did in college, and that’s being kind. He’s also not shown any of this touted football IQ nonsense we were promised. As far as what he supposedly did at Alabama, they’re saying the same thing about Jalen milroe right now and that guys gonna be running routes at the combine. Bo is exactly who he was going to be. Bryce is a fraud and the panthers got rinsed acquiring him. In soviet Russia if you’d given up that much to get great value Bo nix you’d be handed a chambered pistol and a confession to sign.
