What will a $123 million dollar cap allow the the Panthers to do?

Do not forget, we will have to cut some players to make room for the rookies. Tyler Brayton could be gone. Steve Smith could be traded. We WILL sign a DT and CB. That is a given. We will do everything in our power to sign CJ. Who said the rookies will cost $12 million? Cam is going to come in as a rookie around $5-6 million. The others will be under a million (third rounders and below). Rookies get signed for $10 million, IMO.

DW: $6 mil or see ya

CJ: 60 million for 6 year deal--first year? about $7 million.

TD: About $4 mil

JA: $4 mil or see ya

Predictions: DW to Denver, Anderson will shop himself and not get the $$ he thought. CJ stays here (Atlanta has less room)

Considering we are at $73 million right now, That gives us $50 million.

Re-signing our free agents will end up costing us $15 million in 2011 (we will not re-sign DW, IMO).

Kalil and Beason could be extended, increasing the 2011 hit another $10 million.

Rookies will cost us $10 million.

That leaves $15 million to sign free agents. Cofield or Mebane at $8 million per. A CB for $5 million. Almost capped out, right?

Not really.

We could cut Brayton, Trade Smith (like it or not) and that would put us $10 million under again. Of course, we would need to sign a WR, but until our young guys mature, I say sit tight for a year and lets see what we have.

One thing most aren't taking into account is that the Panthers Cap number is actually 83 million, once the League is out of lockout Kalil's franchise tag of 10 million will hit.

CJ will command above 10 million a season easily, The Panther's know how much he means to the Dline and he knows that as well. His price will get jacked because of that and the fact that there are only a few good DE's in FA. Expect a massive contract just because of the market.

I also expect Dwill to be back, not sure on what the team would pay him though. I'd say 5 per sounds about right though.

At least 90% of the 123 is the floor.

This past week saw the resolution of some of the key issues that have been holding up a resolution. The salary cap for 2011 will be $120 million per team, and there is now agreement on a rookie wage system. Compromises to the proposed $120 million salary cap have been made to help teams who have lower revenue, ESPN is reporting.

In addition to the cap, teams will be held to a per-team minimum cash payroll of 89 percent of the cap, as long as the league-wide cash guarantee is 99 percent of the cap. This sets the per-team floor at $106.8 million in 2011, but across the league, the teams must average 99 percent, or $118.8 million per team.

Capology is too difficult to predict. Where do we stand comparatively to all of the other teams in the NFL is the only factor that matters. IMO we should probably be in the top 1/4 of all teams with regard to cap room, which means if we have a free agency period we should be active.

2nd without Kalil's Franchise tag, once that hits I believe the Panthers would be tied in having the 6th most cap room at 83 million.

Teams ahead of Carolina include in order

Tampa Bay - 59

Kansas City - 74

Jacksonville - 78

Philly - 80

St. Louis - 81

Arizona & Carolina - 83 million.

Oakland and San Diego are close by with around 86 million spent.

To those who have been saying that we should pursue the big FAs instead of making our own guys a priority, it isn't the right year. Resigning our own guys makes much more sense. Most of them are considering statistically "elite" at their position and already have the bond with the team and knowledge of the playbook. Every new guy you bring it a this point is only going to complicate things.

Damn, Tampa Bay having all that Cash to spend...Ugh.

one more reason if Newton doesn't pan out we will be fuged in the south for years to come...:(

All our division needs is for Tampa to be rebuilt to make the south 3 elite NFL teams. God I hope we don't play like last year.
