What will a $123 million dollar cap allow the the Panthers to do?

With SSmith counting 9 million with one year left I could see the making a trade on a younger wr and spread that cap out for sure.DWIL is the most expenible being we would not have to replace him.I hope it does not come to that but we need a proven DT,cb and in my opinion saftey. We also need depth on the OL.Lets hope we can restructure Kalil or that will be 10 million against the cap.A veteran qb or MMoore is likely in the mix.

to much talk about the salary cap. bigger issue is cash cap/minimum. contacts will be structured a good bit different than they have been as they will be paying more attention to cash spent rather than how they can manipulate the writing of contracts to keep themselves under the salary cap.

there is no telling how hurney (or any GM for that matter) is going to structure new deals with any players, esp. FAs they want to keep.

i imagine there won't be as much backloading as there has been in the past.

We will do as we always do, sign or key guys, then pick up scraps after other teams sign the bigger named FAs. And we will continue to be mediocre because we think the team we have is championship material.

What do you propose we all do in this time of chaotic distraught, Uptown Bully?

Didn't remember which thread the debate was in, but I know some were saying they weren't sure if the cap was supposed to be 123 or 130...

I think Mort or someone at ESPN reported that it would be closer to the 130 number...

Well, I was just watching NFLN, and I trust their reports more than ESPN, being that they are the league official media outlet, and La Canfora is saying the cap will be 123, plus "cap credits." I have no idea what a cap credit consists of, but could that add up to closer to 130 and give us a chance to get two big name FAs outside of re-signing our own guys?

Isnt that kind of what we did in 03? Im thinking back. . but regardless I dont want to build like that either. I say go all in and get that chit too, cause Im a dumb ass fan who would love to see my team bring in a big name and put on a Panthers jersey just say I could punch my buddy in the arm say "yee, The Freak's gonna fug someone up today!" .

Every moment in any given franchise has its own variables to deal with. One might need to build steady like you described and others might need to go fuggin all in. Without an experienced QB that can play we're not likely going to win one this year. If our agenda is to win a championship then we might want to project when that might be and build accordingly.

I dont think the Panthers have been aggressive enough in FA with young talent at the top of the FA pool, but we also havnt done so bad with bringing in talent that has been more than serviceable in many cases.

Anyways,
