Pep to New England *rumor*

I want all 3 2nd round picks for Pep. We would be set for years on the offensive and defensive lines with 4 2nd rounders.

Would you accept two second rounders?

The more I read and hear, the more I believe this trade could just happen. The question is what the terms will be.

If there were no first rounders involved, would fans accept it?

Just read an article from the Boston Herald. Don't know if it is been posted but I'll put the link at the bottom. The guy writing it seems to think that a trade with the Panthers would be exactly what the Pats need and also well within the Pats ability to make it happen. Them trading a starting LB in Vrabel tho certainly points to them making a move for a big time OLB like Pep. Don't forget the rumors last year that they were interested in Jason Taylor as an edge rusher/hybrid DE. Pep would certainly be an upgrade just a year later.

The writer doesn't think the trade happens for anything less than a 1st and a 3rd but if we are trading with the Pats (not going to have high picks) then I want their first this year and that #34 that they just got from the Chiefs. If Hurney didn't agree to that then I don't see any possible way that Pep gets traded this offseason. Both franchises are known for their methodical, thoughtful decision-making so I'm not even expecting this deal to potentially happen for at least another couple of weeks (maybe not until draft day in April).

Considering the talent that is being projected as 1st rounders I would gladly take 2 2nds. I posted in another thread that at least for DL the 2nd and 3rd round talent seems better than the "projects" that are expected to go in the 1st.

I would take 3 2nd round picks. Maybe 2 2nd round picks and a third. Its win win, we get plenty of picks for quality depth on the offensive and defensive lines with out the extra cost a 1st round pick would demand.

The Pats 1st rounder at the bottom wouldn't demand enough money for us not to want to take him. Unless we took a guy like Sanchez with that pick the money would not be a problem at all. Even if we do sign someone to an expensive deal it is pocket change compared to what we would sign Pep to (long-term) and what we would have to pay Pep this year (17 mil).

I agree that NE seems the most logical but if the rumors are true that some GM's are salavating over Peppers, we may see another Cutler situation arising out of this...one team starts the negotiating and other teams come swooping in to get a bid in. Another 3-4 team in desperate need of a DE that has not been mentioned much is San Diego.

NE

Miami

Washington (unlikely due to cap space)

Dallas (not as unlikely as you may think, they could offer up the farm this year plus next year's 1st. And JJ would consider it)

Green Bay (less likely due to their high draft pick meaning they can fill that DE void there)

San Diego (possible)

Philly (still possible although seems less likely all the time)

I just seems to me that teams are making room for something and I just can't help but wonder if a small bidding war is in our future. The fact that Hurney is dead set on two 1st right now is what is keeping things quiet...as it should be this early.

I think when the first team makes a move, more will follow. This might have "soap opera" written all over it and, fortunately, we can sit back and watch the jockeying knowing that with a good GM on our side, we have a good chance of coming out of this with something good. And that "good" still could be Peppers under contract and working on an extension this summer. Never say never.

:) Just imagine how many people would be crying and b*tchin' if that were to happen......I would love to see him in Panthers blue next season and beyond, especially if the new DC builds the defensive scheme around what our players do best. He is a great talent we'd be at a loss if he left no matter what they offered and Hurney knows it.
