Sorenson: Claussen will almost certainly open season as starter

Recommended Posts

if Rivera's vet QB he brings in is not a better option for a couple weeks before Cam takes over than Jimmy............just fire Rivera/Hurney now. I mean, you would have to try hard to find a vet QB Jimmy could beat out for the starting gig.

I posted this article 2 days ago. That not withstanding, Clausen, Newton, and the vet will go into camp with a shot to start. I think that the best guy will start with the caveat that if all things are equal, there will be much more interest in Newton starting compared to Clausen so he will get the nod. For Clausen to start he will have to be the clear winner.

short leash most likely

how short depends on how well Cam is progressing obviously but also will depend on how much Jimmy the Pick has improved.

I cannot believe anyone is actually surprised by this even if it was actual news. Also the opinion presented in this column has absolutely nothing to do with Rivera and how much he does or does not want to win... that comment was plain stupid.

I am reluctant to believe anything written by a paper nowadays. Reality is there are all struggling so bad that they will print just about anything to attract attention.

Riveria hasn't even met with his new team and Observer writers are predicting the week 1 starter - gotta love it.

I'm gonna be pist if Cam doesn't get his #2 and Clausen is still on the roster come opening day. Hope the organization makes him cough up the # as soon as this lockout ends.

Why do you care about a stupid gay number? I'd be worried about if Cam is grasping the playbook and establishing a positive relationship with his teammates.

A number controversy, lol WFC.

When I think about it, I am more interested to see if JC got any better than I am to see how Cam does.

That, and I want to get Clausens status out of the way first.

QBs rarely improve year 1 to year 2. I don't see why people keep thinking this is realistic.

I mean that type improvement required to justify starting Clausen would be off the charts. I mean that would be cool....but I just don't see that as even a realistic question to ponder.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
