Sorenson: Claussen will almost certainly open season as starter

Recommended Posts

To his credit, he admits he was wrong in the article.

I prefer that over a journalist talking a big game and just ignoring it when he turns out to be incorrect.

No no. He was using his status as an excuse on twitter for him stating Clausen will be the starter. He didnt say it like it was an opinion and he could possibly be wrong. He said it like he was best buddies with Hurney and Rivera and they told him it was 100% guaranteed. Then proceeded to make fun of us. He is a total prick.

Getting back to the original issue which is whether Clausen will start the season, it will come down to who is playing the best. If Clausen shows significant improvement and is more ready than Newton, then I welcome him as the starter. It isn't a Newton versus Clausen issue, but who gives us the best chance to win. In any event Jimmy needs to enjoy his playing time as a starter because it is only inevitable that Newton will be our future. But until then I want the guy who can help us win as many games as possible. I can't really see how a Panther fan who cares about the team would want otherwise.

I'm a pretty consistent Clausen hater, but I agree with this post entirely. I don't think Clausen has a prayer of beating out Cam, but if he does, he should start for the time being.

By the way, the Sorenson hate is way out of line, in my opinion. I've read him on and off since the early 90's (not every week, mind you, as I'm Raleigh resident, but enough to make some sort of judgement) and he's always struck me as sensible, reasonably well researched and entertaining without being sensationalist or inflammatory.

which probably explains why he's still writing for the Charlotte Observer, rather than working a national gig for ESPN.

I don't blame Sorenson for being wrong..I blame Deangelo Williams for running the wrong route..wait what we talking bout? :D

Never said I agreed with everything he wrote.

One of the first columns of his that I read began "Noooooo! Take Mutombo!" (over Larry Johnson) in '91 with the Hornets 1st pick overall. I hated his take, but he had his reasons and defended them well enough, which is all you can ask. And in the end, I don't think you can say he was clearly wrong.

the player that will give us the best chance to win will start.

that very well could be clausen in week 1.

I agree. To be honest, I think it's a mistake for huddlers to be so hard-set on Cam starting week 1. I fully expect a crash.
