Sorenson: Claussen will almost certainly open season as starter

Recommended Posts

Jimmy's rookie season was much worse than those you mentioned.
No matter which way you slice they all played poorly.

If you want to look and hash out varying degrees of poor play and claim that Clausen's play was worse then go right ahead, I try to avoid those quibles because it doesn't change the fact that all those QB struggled as rookies a Clausen poor play is in the same ball park as theirs.

We can agree to disagree.

I think if Clausen is mada available, some team will trade for him.

You don't.

Its relevant b/c its a response to your previous post about Buccs/Jets not giving up on their QBs after their rookie seasons.

You seem to imply that you think Panther's have given up on Clausen and therefore other teams will think they're right.

That is the implication I got from this:

Otherwise I don't understand your point.^^

But, you keep mentioning his bad rookie season but if your not using a rookie season as a barometer for future success then it doesn't matter if they play poorly, they're rookies.

Yeah, they brought him in for a visit, they worked him out.

There was buzz about drafting Clausen and McCoy.

1. My point was the Bucs and Jets drafted their QBs in the first round. No team gives up on their first round QB after one season. That is completely different than a team trading for a QB that played poorly.

2. I mention his rookie season because it is his only one. Name one team that traded for a QB immediately after he has a bad rookie season. Only one I can think of is Favre and he only threw four passes.

3. You didn't answer my question. I was asking were the Redskins interested in Clausen before he played the season, or did they show interest after the season.

You said Clausen played no differently than those QBs. Those QBs were able to lead their teams down the field and score points. Clausen failed at that, making his play different than those.

Like I said, I'm not going to quible over which rookie QB poor season was poorer.

If you say Clausen's was worse fine, but it doesn't make the other QB's rookie seasons good.

They all played poorly is my point.

Why would someone trade for him?
If Clausen is made availble I believe a team will trade for him because they still believe he can play.

only on expert internet boards do people blame rookies exclusively for a 2-14 season. it's almost too ridiculous to write let alone think.

relax my fellow gurus. clausen will play in the preseason and so will cam. Week 1 will say more about Cam than it will Clausen. Bradford started right away last season. what else would you expect from a #1 pick in the draft?

Sorensen showing how much of a tool he is:

Although the announcement has yet to come, Cam Newton will start at quarterback against the Cardinals.

You could see it if you attended Carolina's exhibition opener Saturday or Fan Fest the week before. You could see it if you watched practices at training Cam(p).

Second-year quarterback Jimmy Clausen is not ready. I thought he would be. But I was wrong. Although Clausen has guts, he's still working to overcome the trauma of his rookie season.

It's not about Panthers fans booing him. Any coach who allows fans to dictate personnel decisions is too weak to be a coach, and Rivera is anything but weak.

It's about giving Clausen time to recover. Last season he was hit by opponents, ridiculed by fans and publicly undermined by star teammate Steve Smith. The Panthers lost nine of the 10 games he started. Welcome to the NFL.

He was so smug and confident about Clausen starting week 1. Even poking fun at people who challenged his statement about it. Then he flip flops with this article. What a douche. Suddenly "Clausen needs time to recover" and "is not ready".
