Interesting comments about the Fit. Not sure I like the syling of it, but I also regularly haul a couple-hundred pounds of band equipment in my vehicle along with a person or two extra... seems like it may not be up to this task.

you should really check one out... they're crazy cars

we just got back from michigan on wednesday and there were three of us. on top of that we had two tents, an EZ-up, camp table, three camp chairs, two concert chairs, three large rubbermaid bins, a large cooler, two duffel bags, my buddies photography equipment and all kinds of other random poo shoved in there.

and still managed 42 mpg with it loaded down like crazy

Beginning to look at cars for the first time in almost a decade. Will be buying used, but holy geez... when did cars get so friggin' expensive and who is actually buying the new ones?!?

used cars seem to be going for a lot right now.....too much.

I bought a new car earlier this year and broke my rule of always buying a car a couple years old and just went new.

I'll add the Fit and new Durango to the list. Not a fan of Dodge in general (though I did enjoy my '03 Dakota), but at this point anything is fair game, although it'll probably be a while before a new Durango shows up used.

mini cooper s. 130K miles. not a single service issue since 2003, just regular maintenance.

also support the suggestion to buy a used honda and drive it until the wheels fall off. i owned a honda civic, beat it the hell up, sold it my brother who drove it in DC and NY and destroyed the thing, then he sold it to a mutual friend who continued to drive it in NY until it had 220K miles. it was driven by three males between the ages of 16 and 26 for a twelve year period and it was a serious champion.

Ford expeditions are going pretty cheap now and they are good SUV's. If you like working on trucks and want to go for something exotic, Land Rover Discovery's can be had pretty cheap these days.

But yeah japanese cars will last you a life time. An old Mitsubishi Montero are high quality SUV's that have plenty of space and will last as long as you take care of it. My brother had a 96 model, sh1t was badass. Discovery's are cooler though.

Sorry, im a 4x4 fan.

I love the Nissan Titan I bought a few weeks ago. 5.6L V8. 4 doors. She's a beaut. And I'm getting around 19 mpg which is more than the Ford I traded in. I got one hell of a deal on it as well.
