I wonder if anyone has contacted us in regards to Peppers?

Patriots are the class act of the league, much as I hate to say it. They are consistently the best team around because they don't get crazy with free agency and fill in there while drafting to make their squad what it is. That's the formula I want to follow and so far we are...

If you want, I could call the Eagles and try to broker a deal. We have plenty of cap room and we could give you back that #1 draft pick you guys gave us last year along with something else maybe for Peppers. Not doing anything tonight and the sh*tty weather has me bored to tears so let me know if you guys want me to start making some calls.

If you've got the time, I'm sure it would make a lot of people here happy. Not me, but a lot of others...

But do you guys have anything left to trade?...

Agreed. The draft is the best way to go which is why I really wish we had our first back. but unless we move pep, we are going to have to draft really well rounds 2-7

Yep, you're quite correct. But do you honestly think we'll draft anything better in this draft than Julius Peppers?...

I can understand the hate, but still...

Just playing a little more devils advocate here, but the Vrabel, Cassel for a second deal was a little rushed. On the surface I believe it was just a deal among friends giving the Chiefs a bone. However If you want to read the tea leaves it sets up the scenario that they cleared the way for Peppers, it actually sets up like that's exactly what they did. What other (arguably) available player would they need that much cap space for right now?

As far as the Patriots track record for value, they will pay market value, they just don't overpay, and tend to convince players to take less for sake of the team. If Pep really isn't about the money who knows.

Just thinking out loud.

No hate at all. I just dont' like hanging onto players that dont' want to be here for one year. that is a way for them to play it safe to not get hurt, which kills performance. Hell I bet he pulls a hammy in camp (wink wink) and doesn't even play that much.

I would rather move the player, get best value and draft his replacement. Look Pep is a freak, no getting around it and no player in this draft is even close, but we need to do all we can realistically to secure the RDE position.

One scenario being floated about is the Pats attempting to trade for Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers, who was given the franchise tag by the Panthers. Adam Schefter of the NFL Network has reported that New England is the only AFC team to whom Peppers will approve a trade, and it's possible that if the Panthers trade him, they want to deal him out of the NFC.

Yeah nothing really new the rumors have been floating for weeks now since Peppers said he wouldn't mind landing in NE (they were reportedly on his list). Most every article you read mentions the rumors.

What's making them louder is people (like myself) trying to figure out the Vrabel, Cassel to KC for a second thing. On the surface only two reasons to make that move, charity or clearing out for a big FA move, and the big FA that's been attached to the Pat's is Peppers

Though the entire dynamic of the whole deal has changed. It's possible that Peppers doesn't even want to change anymore, but even if he does, he cannot can it or it would kill his trading status. I just don't understand this logic...

    • well, the comparison is to last year.  The OL is a 180 degree from that.... and overall on the season they have had better skill talent for the same QBs behind a MUCH better OL.    So yeah, the O not looking any better overall is a red flag for Canales.
    • I just want somebody to settle into that Hangartner role and I may give Mays too much credit. He played so well early and has fell off since injuries crept into his vocabulary.  He was struggling to get push on those goal line runs today.
    • You cannot say it doesn't matter who is playing QB ever in any circumstance. The first two games of the season, Bryce was standing in the pocket with time missing throws left and right. We were running the ball well, but even the gimme throws Canales was setting up, Bryce was missing. Then you start Dalton, boom easy win at Las Vegas. By week four's end, three of our best defenders are seriously injured, center injured, 2nd best veteran WR hurt, and best veteran WR quitting on the team.  Canales is a rookie head coach, and he definitely has had some see what sticks moves. But players are being schemed open, the rookies are progressing nicely, and you have the albatross of some terrible lack of talent to phase out. I give him credit alone for pulling Mingo, Thomas, and going with the better/younger producing players. The scheme is better, he just needs better players and I am not going to write him off until he gets more talent, starting with QB!
