New Cam Newton Video on ESPN

So I was just now watching sportscenter...

First they showed the 5 min video with Brady...

Then they had what the ticker called "defending Newton" they were saying how great of an athlete he is... While every highlight showed him throwing a pick

Next Teddy Bruschi mentioned that he would need to check it down to his RB's both Goodson and Stewart...

No mention of DeAngelo at all... Does Teddy know something that we don't???

I sure as hell hope not!

I don't know where else to post this and I'm not starting a thread...I had a dream last night that was really weird!

It was the 1st preseason game. Jimmy started, couldn't get in his rhythm. Cam came out, threw a quick ball to Smitty in the middle, low to his thighs, he dropped it. Next play he dropped back, threw a perfect long ball to the right sideline. Who else caught it...Jimmy Clausen. Next play, quick out to Jimmy Clausen on the left, Jimmy goes to throw it back to Cam, intercepted. Jimmy goes to tackle him, and bounces off like a rag doll.

I woke up laughing my ass off. I don't know what this means on my perception of the QB's or the Panthers, probably nothing, but I found it funny to say the least.

Bruschi's game plan for defending Newton was essentially the Monte Kiffin prototype for defending Michael Vick. Keep him in the pocket and force him to pass rather than run. Pressure him to force him to the side where he's less comfortable throwing.

No shock. That's pretty much what I expect to see from DCs when he goes in, and until he proves it's not effective (we hope). Add in with his being a rookie - assuming he starts as one - they'll give him a boatload of different looks to keep him guessing.

My big question will be when they decide to throw pressure at him, will they use bigger guys to account for his size or faster guys to throw off his timing. My guess would be option two. If that's ineffective, go to option one.

    • I complete disagree. Who is available is extremely relevant. If you have a couple of players you would be happy with and you can still get them if you trade back, you should do that in a heartbeat. Being afraid that people will lowball you next year is an odd stance. Then you just say no next year, problem solved. In this particular draft you can get a very good player at 46. But to each their own.
    • I don't think so.  Watson really screwed them up.  I see something happening, but do not know what.  Cousins could be had in a trade--but they liked Flacco when he played there.  If it were me, I would not spend the #2 pick on Sanders.  I would go after a tier 2 qb because I think Will Howard is going to start in the NFL soon, and I think Ewers was rated very high at the beginning of the year--he knows adversity and he beat out a Manning while taking Texas to 2 playoff appearances.  I am not good at picking QBs, but I think Howard's run pass option and his accuracy is going to help someone.  Stay in Ohio and play for the Browns behind Flacco--
    • After Cam at #1, there are three or four elite players and there could be a trade--If I am the Giants and I am needed a winning season badly and I have several needs, I might trade out and pick up mid first and an extra second rounder, including a QB--while nobody is going to move up to #3 for Sanders, they might for Carter or Hunter.  If the Giants then move back, Sanders could still be in play.  That could be the trade in the top 3.  New England wants Campbell and I get that; Jacksonville at #5 could move back if someone wants Graham or Jeanty.  But barring some trade, the top 4 are probably locked in. So it could be 2 hours into the draft before we get any surprises. Nice list, by the way--you nailed it.
