The Broncos are actively shopping Jay Cutler

So how much did he contribute, or rather how much did he do to stop the Broncos collapse at the end of the season, costing them a playoff spot?

not nearly as much as the fact that they were grabbing starting rb's off the street and the fact that their defense couldn't stop the run

Well if Ed Hochuli had allowed his goofy ass looking fumble to stand they wouldn't have even been fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the year...lol

I don't blame him for why the Broncos didn't make the playoffs, but I think he did press a whole bunch and hurt his team somewhat in the 4 or so games I saw of him.

I don't think he was the reason they didn't make the playoffs either. But I didn't see him take the team on his back either, like an all-pro QB.

Bottom line, Cutler would be an improvement at QB for the Panthers. But to think adding him at the cost of the defense would improve our team past 12-4 isn't realistic.

Besides, I thought Williams/Stewart behind our intact O-line was the key to our offensive success?

Saladdodger-

To me, Cutler isn't a leader...that's part of it. Now, can he mature? Certainly. Has he shown it yet? Not to me.

Upon meeting this lady in person you realize two things. Yes, she is as sexy as you might imagine. And she is as smart as she appears here, better believe it... This makes me believe even more...

How is he not a leader? Back in 2006 he took over a struggling team and played well enough to have an excellent season and only just missed getting his team to the playoffs while playing with a concussion.

Following the season he played his first full year and finished in the top 10 for 3rd down efficiency and was in the top 12 overall for Qbs. Whether or not he is leader he showed at that point he's damn well good enough to succeed. Besides that fact, Phi Simms singled him out as the next Peyton Manning type player coming through the ranks. That's high praise right there.

After the 07 season he went down to Atlanta to be with Scheffler and Brandon Marshall to train outside of OTAs and team workouts, pretty much he organised to train with his two main targets to get better acquainted. Giving up your offseason to work on connections shows a lack of leadership? I think not.

In 2008 he was voted offensive captain, he didn't ask for it, didn't have it just bestowed on him, his team mates selected him.

He works with three chairities in his downtime.

Everything that's happened on the field and in the locker room with Cutler has shown him to be a gutsy leader whom his team rallies around and all you can do is point out he got pissed off when his team tried to trade him.

That doesn't make him any less of leader, because he wants to stand by his troops.

The guy has lead comeback quarters and moreover, comeback seasons nearly every year he's started and did so without a proper running game, issues at wide receiver and no defense, at all to speak of. Cutler didn't lose games last year, the Denver defense did.

He's everything a leader should be on an NFL team.

LOL...where's that blushing emoticon when you need it?

I know...that's the one I needed!

I haven't denied that he has talent...so all that argument can't be meant for my eyes though you quoted me. In another thread I said how I don't blame him for their not making the playoffs, but I think he pressed some and hurt the team at times.

He has every right to be pissed about the trade rumors or talks (though now that it comes out that he may have asked for a trade himself when he lost his QB coach, I think that feeling may not hold as much water)...but in my book LEADERS DO NOT DISCUSS THIS PUBLICLY. EVER. Chad Pennington was ROYALLY ROYALLY f*cked over by the NYJ, they brought him to Cleveland with them for a preseason game then cut him and sent him home on a plane BY HIMSELF instead of just letting him stay with them & fly home with the team afterwards or letting him stay in NY like any one with any decency would have done...but did he ever whine publicly for a nanosecond? Nope. That's mental toughness, and that is what I don't see from Cutler.

Leaders also don't go after their teammates in the press like Cutler did with Marshall...no matter WHAT A DUMBASS Marshall has been, and he has been a massive one...that is to be kept private between the parties. In my book, leaders don't call out their guys or coaches in the press. Period. Never.

A leader does not talk in the press about how he has something, anything that is SUPERIOR to the most beloved QB ever to lace on a pair of cleats for the Broncos.

A leader does not throw and INT and when asked by his WR why he didn't even try to tackle the guy, blow him off completely in a blase way about not wanting to make the effort (I heard him myself do this, verbatim in a clip on NFLN).

A leader DOES NOT EVER BLAME HIS DEFENSE OR ANYONE ELSE EXCEPT HIMSELF IN THE PRESS FOR LOSING GAMES. I will find the exact quote if you want, but after SD beat them he was asked if they would beat Indy and he said words to the effect of no, Indy will beat the Chargers..WE CAN'T STOP ANYBODY.

When you do this type of thing, you do NOT get respect in the lockerroom because you have shown you do not have your guys' backs when they need you to. If he continues to do these things, he will lose the lockerroom. I wouldn't even CONSIDER this type of guy on this team unless he turns that around. People talk about Rivers' yappiness, me included, and I do think he needs to get a little more mature on the field (i.e. verbal sparring with opposing fans is Jenkinsesque), but he is a great teammate from everything I have seen and he never EVER trash talks his guys to the press that I have ever heard.
