Could Anderson outshine Beason?

i read the first couple pages but just skipped to the back

has everyone forgotten about our draft pick eric norwood? i feel in riveras 3 4 schemes he's gonna be awesome. All time leader in sacks at South Carolina, Fox never gave him a chance. With his speed and TD's speed on the edge with Beason and Connor in the middle our lb blitz will be unstoppable.

It is hard to say which guy will be better in McDermott's scheme. it depends on how they use these guys. For example while McDermott was in Philly he blitzed the middle linebacker quite a bit but it was largely due to feeling their Mike was not great in pass coverage so you might as well blitz him.

Given Beason is very good in pass coverage he may play back more while other guys blitz. Hard to say until we see something in preseason.

they probably aren't going to show what they're gonna do in the preseason, that would be stupid.

The Eagles ran their scheme from day 1 in the preseason and blitzed right off the bat. The feeling was that to do it right in the regular season you needed reps right away instead of holding back. McDermott's scheme relies on confusing the blocking up front and being aggressive. Teams like Baltimore, the Jets, Pittsburgh etc bring it right away so the backups get experience. They don't hold anything back. I guess they are all stupid.

all i'm saying is to show teams your schemes in the PRE season makes the other teams know what to expect. If we didn't do anything like we were going to in the regular season the other team would expect what we did in the preseason, THEN we would blitz and catch them off guard.

You really think that teams don't know what you are going to run on defense when you start the season?? You might be thinking about offense where teams often don't show trick plays or go through their whole package. But typically on defense teams need repetitions and typically they go through all their looks and basic schemes. What changes when the regular season starts is gameplanning for specific opponents and making specifc adjustments based on the opponent. In other words the defense might work on their cover 2 in the preseason against an opponent that later on they might run more cover 3 or cover 1 for example. The caveat being that typically in the third preseason game they do more gameplanning. Otherwise they run more of a vanilla defense but it is not the same as saying they are holding things back. They run the basic schemes because they are still installing the defensive plan and more worried about the defenders learning the basics before they mox things up too much.

WLB = Anderson, MLB = Beason, SLB = Connor

I don't think that Connor can handle the TE in pass coverage so I doubt he is the SLB. He might get work on running downs but he struggles in space. I would think that they might go with Harris or Williams at WLB and move Anderson to strong side. Or simply keep Anderson at WLB and use Harris or Williams at SLB.

Hopefully TD is fully recovered and ready to go.

The only LB on the team better than Beason is Davis at the WLB position. Connor isn't better at MLB in pretty much any respect. I don't know what tape you were watching but 2010 is not a good year for watching LB on a team with no defensive tackles.

Neither of us were watching 'tape'. However Connor was exceptional against the run. Better than virtually anyone in the NFL. His ratio of defensive stops to tackles was ridiculous. Beason has a tendency to have real up and down games against the run due to his over aggression in pursuit.

WLB = Anderson, MLB = Beason, SLB = Connor

And yet how did they start last season? (I am aware that Fox was the coach)

Agreed, although some of the more exotic blitzes etc are likely to be kept under wraps.

To answer the question, doubtful.

Fug No... But it's awesome that we'd even be having this debate to begin with. Who woulda thought this would even have been a topic. Good problem to have...

BUT

I do SERIOUSLY believe that Thomas Davis can outshine Beason if he could stay healthy. He was leading the team in tackles by a lot last year before going down... Something that most people probably didn't remember until now.

Beason is my boy.. He went to The U.... But TD is also the truth!

If our LB's can stay healthy this year, opposing offenses ate gonna hate seeing us!

They're so good that if our D line can get penetration it won't matter who we put out there at Corner or Safety... Teams won't even be able to get the ball off... And all 3 are fast enough to cover.... I'm just sayin fellas... Our starting 3 are no slouches....

Peep my tagline if you think I'm joking... As real as it gets.

Davis didn't play last year, how was he leading the team in tackles?
