he is still a liability against both the run and pass. Sure, he will make a highlight play mixed in with all his slop.....but the guy is a pretty bad S. Great athlete though.

What team have you been watching the past 3 years? Godfrey has been inconsistent ever since his rookie season. Maybe SOME of his bad plays were due to Marshall last season, but to say all of it was because of Marshall and that the problem only existed last season because of him is asinine.

Pugh might be starting, or at least in the rotation, this season. He will become one of our best late round draft picks. I watched him during OTAs--he was confident, fast, and aggressive.

Godfrey is a CB playing S. Another one of Fox transformations but people saying he looked out of position bc of Marshall clearly doesnt know football. we were a cover 2 team meaning the S's had to play half of the field with CB help underneth or flat players.

I don't know enough about Godfrey's play to have an opinion, all I remember his Felix Jones juking him out of his cleats during pre-season two years ago.

godfrey has had his problems. he played much better last year. if he keeps improving he'll be fine.

Some of the problems with Godfrey and Martin were Fox's bend don't break defense and lack of pressure on the quarterback. A more aggressive scheme will suddenly make both of these guys look much better than they did last year. I though Godfrey did make strides in shoring up his run defense last year. Both he and Martin were out of position against the pass because they had to think run defense first given how poor we were on the edges and to the outside. Play action worked great against us given teams had all day to throw against us and our safeties had to worry so much about the run.

After the way Hillis trucked Godfrey I don't blame him for not wanting to support run D.

Our entire secondary didn't play well last year.

Wonder why a unit could be affected so much, whebn the year before they played much better.

Could it be the dline?

You can't look at the secondary without taking into consideration, the dline. Last year we had the worst dline and play from the dline, from the fox era.

Perfect example how games are won, and lost, in the trenches.

We have to get improved play and consistency from the dline, or the secondary will always look bad, regardless of the talent that we DO HAVE!

I'll be glad when marshall is gone, but we have talent in the secondary.

Godfrey is good, and can be better, but it'll require better play from the defensive line. Won't matter who is back there.

CRA hates Godfrey. Every thread about him is trashed with his comments about how bad he is. On a 2 -14 team last year he was an alternate to the pro bowl, and that's still not good enough for CRA, basically our safeties need to be Jesus and Mohammed for him to be happy.

Furthermore with a better d-line, a mastermind of a coach defensively, and Marshall out of the picture , I'm betting both Sherrod and Godfrey have great seasons
