SIR - McNabb?

Recommended Posts

he wouldn't stay with that deal. that contract would be renegotiated to something far more reasonable. no one believes that he would stay under anything close to that contract.

it's essentially a non-issue.

But he would have to agree to renegotiate. He would have to want to come here and be a mentor/3rd QB for less money. If we wait for the skins to cut him then we can try to get him for cheap and no lost pick. I think there will be teams that will want him as a started and that is where he will end up.

he would not be a 3rd qb lol. if he comes here, he's starting for a year at least.

Haha sure he may start a few games but how many loses in a row till it is desided that Cam could have done that and got real game experience to show for it.

For a 7th round pick, absolutely. Although I really don't like McNabb, he does have tons of experience, which could hopefully rub off on Cam.

I am not sure how "mentorish" McNabb is, but I would hope that he could give Cam some advice about the game.

I don't care who they bring in as a Vet, Just as long as Cam is continued to be groomed as the franchise QB.

Plus, I don't want the vet QB taking any kind of huge paycheck. That is BS. I don't want a "starter" to come here. I want a QB willing to sit back, help out when needed, and basically just be there to help Cam.

If you trade for him the contract comes with him. He will not want to go to a rebuilding team in the twlight of his career, and if he doesn't want to come here, he will just say no to changing the contract.

And for gods sake, lets not forget that McNabb sucks outside of Reids WCO, and even there he was just good.

he's likely to get more money from a renegotiated contract than he would in the free market. hard to tell what the demand is going to be for him, though.

i don't know about the whole 3rd QB stuff...no way is clausen or moore getting put above mcnabb on the depth chart.

i think he realizes that he is going to have to renegotiate if he's going to go anywhere else. no way is anyone going to give him the kind of money that the redskins would have if they kept him around.

wouldn't be a 3rd QB, but he wouldn't be starting for the first year. maybe the first few games, but only until newton shows that he knows the playbook enough to get the job done. team doesn't gain anything by making newton sit when he's able to play.

mcnabb would be taking more than moore last year, but i don't know about much over $5mil next year. i doubt we would touch that.

as a mentor, though, the dude is great. he did a really good job with vick. he knows what it takes to be a professional in the industry and be successful.

he may not have a choice. culpepper tried that hardline stance crap and it got him in the UFL.

We tried the old folks home approach a few years back and it did not work.
i don't know...vinny did pretty good here. esp. as a mentor, which is what we are essentially asking of any vet QB to come in.

In exchange for a 6th or 7th round pick?

Done... but we would need to run a "McNabb-friendly" offense to get our money's worth.

We don't.

Truthfully, the attack we'll be running would be more likely to maximize his weaknesses than his strengths.

Ditto Matt Hasselbeck.

Bottom Line: Don't trade for a WCO quarterback if you aren't running a WCO. It pretty much never works.

i doubt it, i see McNabb starting this year, not backing up Cam Newton. i think the vet the panthers sign is either Delhomme or Volek and they will likely backup both Newton and Clausen and teach them the ropes and mentor them. McNabb i see in Minnesota and Ponder being groomed slowly.

Guest HurriPanther

I would rather have Bryon Leftwich

more likely to get Charlie Batch and he'd probably be a better mentor

I agree. McNabb makes perfect sense in Minnesota where they are built to win now because their window is closing. I would love to see old Jakey come back. Be tough to find a better back-up without spending a ton of money and you know Jake will be a great mentor.

If he is as bad as you are making him sound, then why aren't you totally against it?

Don't get me wrong I like McNabb, but this team is young and will be implementing a new offence and defence. Dosen't matter who the QB is winning will be hard. I think we need a vet/back up/mentor and don't see McNabb wanting to be a back up. He was put in a similar spot last year with Grossman and I don't see him wanting to jump back into it. If he is willing to be a vet/back up/mentor and take a contract like Shockey's then yes if not then no.
