That pretty much sums it up. Personally, I will be a Peppers fan until the day he leaves, even though he has irritated the hell out of me lately.

If Peppers ends up staying I see him becoming the A-Rod of the Carolinas. He will be booed, cheered and ignored in every quarter, every game and every season.

Actually he is a free agent. He just has the franchise tag applied to him and that requires a team to compensate the Panthers if they sign him. No different than a restricted free agent (RFA) really.

Me too... I've always liked Pep and while I think he could have handled the situation a little differently, I'm cool with it.

I like peppers, I'll cheer for pep if he stays. I just don't see us keeping him with that tag price. If he stays I'm hoping he's changed his mind and does a long term deal.

On the flipside...

If he leaves and actually plays to potential elsewhere, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth, and the 'Fire Fox' train will have many people shoveling coal into it's boiler.

If he leaves and plays the same way as before, people will argue about him (same as they're doing now, but with the added debate over whether or not we were adequately compensated).

If he leaves and gets worse, the laughter will reach to the heavens.

people are wailing and gnashing now. Stories about how tyrannical Fox is for sitting in on a meeting or two, how coaches that we wouldn't allow to interview elsewhere last year left this year after we offered a minimal contract to them, how Peppers just doesn't like Fox, so on and so on, things that have no basis in reality. It won't take a successful Peppers to make people irrational after a 12-4 season as is happening now.
