STP is the only band from the grunge era that I recall being referred to that way almost all the time.

there were also some punk bands that were referred to by acronyms. It was their actual name though. NoFX and MXPX.

the only current band i know of like that is O.A.R. theirs actually means something though. Of A Revolution.
