Any Mike Goodson highlights?

you really should rethink this philosophy.. Goodson jump started the run game last season, fact.

you do NOT need a shifty RB in the backfield.. I mean, I don't even know how to take that comment seriously.

I think the O-line jump started the run game more than anybody. Goodson definitely has better acceleration than Stewart which helped. I think Goodson has more of that shifty quality than Stewart but he's still pretty stiff. If he didn't fumble so much I think he'd be a reliable change of pace. Lots of running backs have fixed their fumbling problems so it's not outlandish to think he could carry the load.

when Stewart got healthy he was able to run....and so was Goodson. And that was once the passing game was exposed as the complete and utter joke it was.

I don't hate Williams....I just think it is a tad homeristic (is that a word?) to ignore him coming of two consecutive injury plagued seasons, looking very average in his 2010 action, is getting older, and had heavy miles entering the NFL. He is suppose to be the RB that doesn't need the great OL play.

I don't see how he looked very average. He was able to break off decent runs while Stewart was stuffed every single time. Remember how frustrated he was with the O-line? Stewart needs some kind of hole to demonstrate his ability. Pretty much all of his strengths are tied to him being across the LOS.

he can fix the fumbling issues, that's aside from the point at the moment.

The OLine magically kicked in the day Goodson started.. our RBs best ball carrier averaged 40 yards a game up until Goodson started and broke 100 yards that day. After that, they were ballin..

fact is, Goodson kick started our run game.

as I already stated, there have been PLENTY of games where DWill couldn't get poo going on and Stewart found ways to gain yards.

the craziest thing I've heard a fan say is that a 1 cut back or a big back can't get yards over a scat back. Majority of the time, it's the other way around unless you are dealing with Barry Sanders.

it all falls on the basic principle to running the ball: ground and pound, eventually the defenders will break down.

there have been times (especially in 2008) where DWill wasn't getting it done and Stewart got the run game going.

actually.. there have been several games like these..

Goodson was the one to get the run game going in 2010 when neither Stewart or DWill had success..

I think it's an extreme exaggeration to say Stewart has been the one to get the run game going over Williams especially in 2008. What games did he have where Williams was ineffective and he was the one who clearly was the back that day?

The Bears game. One game. As far as I can remember it's the only game that Stewart and Williams have played together where it was obvious Stewart needed the carries. Every other game he was equal or outplayed by Williams. Maybe the packers game if he hadn't of cramped up he could have put forth a good performance.

We'll never know if Goodson really got the game going in 2010 because he got the game going when Stewart/Williams were not healthy. I think he has unique abilities compared to Stewart/Williams for sure. He's faster and he's gotten a lot more stubborn about being brought down than in 09. But I think it was mostly a team thing. If he fixes his fumbling problem I think Goodson/Stewart would be a competent duo. They aren't really that shifty but they have a diverse enough skill set to handle any situation.

I don't really care who gets the most carries or who starts. But I'm not comfortable with Stewart being the sole option because there have been too many times where he's been shut down while Williams had success.

I'm not in the camp that thinks Stewart gets better with more carries. Fox was not biased to keeping Stewart on the bench or behind Williams. Stewart got less carries because he was ineffective, it's not the other way around.

there have been plenty of games Stew was the reason our run game got going on, even in 2008...

I believe Tampa was one of them as well...

I'll try to get some time to do the extensive research for you, however, it is a fact.. Stew energized the run game many times for our team when DWill was getting stuffed..

I think Gary Williams helped too. Bernadeau was playing really poorly. I think Having Schwartz and Williams on the right side really helped.

you have stated that there have been games but you haven't shown any. You have to have some kind of substance behind the words. In fact I've shown more games supporting Stewart due to the fact that you have shown 0.

Bears game 2008. That's all I can think of. Only game that Stewart/Williams had together where Stewart was obviously the better man for the job. There have been games where either had a good game without the other one on the field due to injury etc. Many games where they both played well, one or two games where they both sucked. But I haven't seen many games where Stewart has been effective and Williams has not been effective.

during the games Williams was healthy he was far more effective than anybody else on the team. I don't understand why people think Stewart would be more effective with more carries, he was getting stuffed every time. He's not the kind of runningback that can make something out of nothing. I don't understand why people find this so outrageous.

No he wasn't. Williams was very average in 2010.

Stewart was hurt early.....and when he got healthy he wasn't getting stuffed. Stewart in the 2nd half of the season was better than Williams was. Goodson made more out of nothing than Williams did in 2011....he just needs to fix the negative in his game (fumbling blocking).

Stewart said it wasn't injuries, Fox said it wasn't injuries. That's not an excuse. The O-line was playing poorly which is why Stewart played poorly. Williams due to his different skill set was able to still produce something effective. This isn't complicated.

well, the fact remains Stewart is a bruiser......you can't give him just 7 carries and expect him to be effective. He needs reps to run over teams. Stewarts attempts increased when Williams went to IR. Plenty of Panthers have gone through seasons w/ players and coach denying injury.....when injured. Not wise for either party to acknowledge it. OL had nothing to do w/ Stewart looking noticeably quicker and more agile later in the year.

I don't recall Williams being all that effective in 2010.

It isn't all that complicated to realize as Williams ages he shouldn't get the majority of the reps on a stacked roster. Not with a work horse like Stewart on the roster.

yea while williams was healthy he averaged something like 4.1 ypc behind the crappy line while stewarts was 2.8 or something around that. i remember discussing it before.

again, Stewart was noticeably more explosive and agile later in the year which hinted at his injury. So does the lack or reps and practice.

Stewart plays hurt time and time again.

If you got a healthy Stewart going forward, I don't see how you can logically continue to give the bulk of the carries to Williams. You don't rest a stud entering his prime on the bench with a RB on the backside of his carrer getting the bulk.....regardless of how loved he is.

SorthNarolina.. it's not exactly easy to sit down and watch all the games where DWill gets stuffed early on and Stewart comes in to break up the defense.. if the OLine is playing good, it's not a question. Both RBs are successful.

looking at an entire game and saying "Chicago was the only one" only shows that DWill got stuffed the ENTIRE game.. a RB like DWill isn't going to be held all game on most occassions, especially when you have Stewart punching defensive players in the mouth.. stats aren't going to show the change of pace from DWill to Stew..

for some reason you think Stewart needs 10 yards to build up steam.. RBs have been hitting D's in the mouth for years without the scat back attribute..

Stephen Davis seemed to do just fine..

if you are talking about what you prefer: scat back or hit you in the mouth.. that's fine.

if you go by what coaches and players say on every little thing, then you obviously have never heard of "coach speak"..

yes, everyone said he was healthy. Stew said he was healthy for the 1st time at the beginning of the season, however rumors did start to come out mid-season about another possible injury going unmentioned for Stew..

whether we take that with a grain of salt or not, it was mentioned. no need to put the blinders on for that.

Williams averaging 60 yards a game isn't exactly "still producing something effective"..
