My daughter's "boyfriend"/friend that's a boy

I wouldn't associate him as a "wrong one".. it's not like he's hoo-bangin on the weekends..

plenty of kids are going through insanity at that age, even if they look perfect on the outside.

I don't see why you'd see one as being wrong while the other as being OK. People are genetically predisposed to certain behaviors. Some people are violent, hyper-sexual, while others can be depressed and unsociable.

No better, no worse. That's just who they are. I'm sure everyone has been in a situation where they condemned someone's behavior and said "I'd never do that." You're right, you probably never would. Different people are tempted by different sins.

Everyone has to resist as much as possible and meet somewhere in the middle. Now whether the kid is mentally sane or not is a question that currently he only he knows the answer to. Obviously he's not going to admit to trying to kill himself without a reason or excuse at that age. It's looked down on in Western society so he'll come up with an excuse or an actual reason if he's honestly insane.

I firmly believe it is his right to kill himself. It's a very basic human right and a more logical right than the one to have a child (in which you receive no consent from the child obviously). Apparently this kid's parents are not around to raise him yet no one in this thread has condemned them for having a kid and not raising it. Don't know the back story on that though.

Still, I don't see how anyone would have sympathy for the kid. Even if he's telling the truth and is insane, he'd probably be better off dead. Those people tend to lead tragic lives and many kill themselves after years of failed treatments.

simple really..

whether he is better off dead is a personal opinion, and I'm not even arguing that opinion is right or wrong.

but to compare him to a person who has a choice and choses to cause violent acts towards others isn't exactly a fair assessment.. if someone is hearing demons, they have a serious mental illness they cannot control.

you're trying to compare gang violence to someone with the likes of cancer or heart disease..

is the kid better off dead? that's an entirely different discussion..

people do not chose to have cancer, heart disease, or see demons. are some people predisposed to cause crime? sure, I can agree with that.. there are people with mental illnesses, but it wouldn't be fair to associate them with those who are not mentally ill.

with that said, we are now comparing mental diseases with those who do not have mental disease who have simply chosen to cause crime.. you can lump everyone together, but you would have to chose to ignore the fact that people without mental illnesses commit crime based on choice alone..

this kid would not fall in that category..

can you look down on what the kid did? sure. I fully expect people to chose to be ignorant to the fact that this kid isn't normal. he obviously doesn't have a healthy mind.

but I wouldn't for one second lump one scenario (a kid who is mentally ill) in with another scenario like the kid is chosing to toilet paper houses, smash mailboxes, light dogshit on a porch, or ring doorbells and run..

which is how I feel Meat was portraying the kid.. the kid isn't selling drugs on the street, he has a mental illness..

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
