PFT: The worst moments in Panthers franchise history

Are people this ignorant or do they not care so much about the Panthers, that they have no clue about even the most simplest details?

there's a simple explanation... just think back to any time you've hated on someone for no reason..

people have no need to view the Panthers with respect. we've made 1 SB and made the playoffs 3 times in Fox's tenure.. (9 years?) while going 1-15 the year before with some sad years around then as well..

expansion teams aren't respected from the get go anyhow. until we take that respect from people, expect this franchise to continue on in the media as it always has..

Nothing to do with 6 turnovers by Jake Delhomme?

Fox should of ran all over AZ....that is what got us to that game. After the first TD drive it became the Jake show.....and there was no reason to go to the air as early and often as ge did.....

And Fox was equally bad on D letting AZ create mismatches the entire first half with Fitzgerald.

totally agreed.

seemed like once jake screwed up his focus wasn't on trying to do something that worked...it was on trying to redeem himself and/or fix what he broke.

fox, on the other hand, figured that what they did the first time they played would work exactly the same defensively. why plan for the other team to adjust to what your doing or actually try something different? who does that (other than teams who really want to win)?

no one else remembers that the defense had been collapsing for the last month and a half. Ken Lucas was dying on the field before our eyes and the DTs were wearing down.

Not following Fitz with Gamble the whole game is a specific example but they were going to trash us regardless. Even if Jake hadn't Jake'd that game away they still would have needed to score 40+.

What about the time Sir Purr jumped on a live ball in the endzone?

Against the Steelers I think?

That was actually pretty funny.

Carruth has to be the worst. A real life tragedy is always worse than a bad sports moment.

Speaking of which, no one mentioned Fred Lane's murder? I know he technically wasn't a Panther at the time but it's not like he ever took the field for the Colts.

I disagree. With all the turnovers giving them great field position, they probably would have gotten like 2 fewer TDs without the turnovers. 2 fewer TDs just means they would have scored 19 points, even if it were only 1 that woulda been 26 points...not exactly insurmountable for that year's offense.

To me worst moments are when real fans feel shame for even being a fan the next day. That wasn't the case in the first game agaisnt the Falcons or after the Superbowl.

I agree with Carruth and the Arizona playoff game. I would have added the hiring of Seifert (the shame of that hiring came at the end of the 2001 season), Smitty breaking Lucas' face and having to start a 41 year old Vinny Testeverdi in 2007 (yeah he won that game but just the fact we had to start him was pretty shamful).

I wanted to also add that back in I believe 2006 or so there was a preseason game that was nationally televised by Fox and they had Goose on the field and it was announced that he was going to pick the best fan in the crowd and that guy would recieve a new Ford Truck. Then he ends up handing the winner, don't remember his name but he's the Panthers most famous fan, a toy truck. I wasn't ashamed but just the lack of respect from Fox pissed me off to no end. IMO that was a low moment for the franshise just based off of the lack of respect.

I agree, starting Testevedi was tough. I spent a decade or more making fun of this guy and then had to pull for him. 3 hour shower and a brillo pad couldnt get the shame off.

    • It's Thielen.   BTW, Thielen is the perfect model for him to follow.
    • Bigcat at Barstool was talking about Purdy and said he’s a guy you win with. Not a guy you win becasue of. Like Allen, Jackson, Mahomes, and Burrow. I’m all for Bryce being our QB the next 2 years, but you can’t go out there a pay him like a top 12 QB when we become a .500 ball club.
