Owners pushing for "right of first refusal" clause

Reports indicate owners are pushing to have a right of first refusal for three or four unrestricted free agents per team included in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Meaning we would be able to match offers to Deangelo and CJ and keep them. That would be nice. Hopefully there's something in the CBA taking care of the "poison pill" tactic. That's cheap and dirty (last seen performed by the Vikings in signing Steve Hutchinson, if I recall correctly).

Kind of a modified Franchise Tag concept.

It could work, but only if the number of times you could match is limited. Otherwise, it does limit a players ability to move to another team. They would get paid, but there are always other reasons that players want a change of scenery.

With literally hundreds of free agents on the market this year, having the right to match 3 player's salaries would still allow the majority of players to do as they please.

Well, every team being able to match 3 offers would mean up to 96 free agents theoretically could be taken out of the pool. One of the articles I read mentioned the RoR being only applicable to 4th or 5th year players, similar to the restricted tags of the 2010 season, not all FAs.

If we could match and keep Deangelo, CJ, and Anderson (or TD if there's competition) I wouldn't mind so much losing anyone else. I'd want to keep both of the LBs, but by FAR the most important two guys we need to resign are Deangelo and CJ, in my opinion.

i think it's only for the first year of the CBA.

They were talking about this on NFL radio this morning and I finally called in a mentioned that I had read it was only this year due to the short amount of time for signing free agents. They still didn't agree that this is a good idea but mainly from the players perspective...not necessarily the fans.

hell no we would sign Anderson before Dwill

our offseason looks like this

1a Johnson

1b DWill

2 Davis

3 Extend Kalil/ Beason (he damn sure deserves one)

4 Anderson

Anderson is most likely gonna be signed before Davis because of his injuries, he's gonna have to complete a physical.
