Beason the tough guy

Panthers MLB Jon Beason wrote in his personal blog today that he had shoulder surgery on Feb. 12 to repair a torn labrum. He said he initially suffered the injury in October against Arizona, and played through the rest of the season.

Makes his Pro Bowl season that much more remarkable, that he did it one-armed for half the year. He wrote that "when I tackled someone it was almost like throwing a pillow at them.

Beason said he'd "absolutely" be ready for training camp and the first exhibition game. He's going to need the mental reps too, because the Panthers are shifting to a variation of the "Tampa 2" defense which will put increased burdens on him.

I wouldn't blame him entirely, that being said I'm sure it's hard to tackle with only one arm.

Yeah, as well as he played I wonder if his injury forced the defense to adjust to "help" Beason and that in turn caused the problems...

It's possible that knowing Beas was hurt that way made the other LBs sloppy in their gap control to try to "make up" for his limitations.

That said, it was the DL that was most of the problem last year, IMO.

Ultimately I can't see how it made any difference in the seasons outcome. The Cardinals offence played about the same in both games at BofA. The difference was the Panthers O didn't show up in the playoffs and the D wasn't good enough to overcome all of the turnovers.

Really against a decent offence what D could overcome 5 to's?
