Everyone knows you build threw the draft. I'd rather have a young stud than a "middle aged" (in football terms) guy who could be a bust.

We draft pretty good, especially in the first round.

Do you really think a rookie lineman can come in and contribute to wins and not cost us a game or two? The old saying goes something like, "Every starting rookie translates directly to a loss". You take absolutely no stock in this? You also think FAs have a better chance of being a bust than a draft pick? Really?

You build through the draft and fill holes in Free agency. We will get active next week and pickup a DE and DT. But I wouldnt be surprised if we draft the rest.

JR, whats your take on the Eagles? They have a load of cap space...you think they are going to go after TJ?

They always have a load of cap space which does anger me, but to go along with this thread I am also glad they don't just throw money around during FA and handcuff themselves financially for the next few years because they have some middle aged has been who they paid to much because of the reputation the person has.

With that being said... I think they make a run at TJ, but supposedly they make a run at everyone but are to cheap to pull the trigger most times. If they want a happy McNabb and really want to make a run at the SB then they will sign a big name WR via FA or trade.

We do have that extra #1 pick some team gave us last year as trade bait for someone.

If you go back and look at the prior six free agency periods under Fox/Hurney, they have only chosen to make a "splash" on the first day it began twice:

2005 with Lucas and Whale

2006 with Hartwig and Kemo

Other than that, they usually sit back and let the market sort itself out before picking and choosing. And it has worked well at times finding gems like Jake, Diggs, McCree, Vincent, etc.

Jake sucks. He is no fuging gem. Diggs, McCree? Do you have any better?

I think long term success and ultimantley championships are built through the draft. From year to year you are probably correct in that FA are a better source of instant improvement but under the salary cap is that one year bump worth the furture headaches?

Gross came in as a rookie and did very well so did Otah.

There aren't many quality free agents this year. Plus, most of the time, these guys get their huge contract and then they have nothing left to play for. I'd rather have some mid level guys who have something to prove. We have had much better luck building through the draft. Look at our starting 22 guys. Most were drafted by the team. On offense, only Delhomme, Vincent and Hoover(undrafted free agent) weren't drafted and on defense Brayton, Kemo, Lucas, Lewis, Harris(was traded for) and Diggs. Out of those, only Kemo and Lucas were paid fairly big contracts.

You know for Hurney to be such a Money guru we never have it and were always just under the cap.

Your bithing to just be bitching. We always are 10 mil under the cap this year come F/A expept this year because of Peppers. Hurney does a good job at keeping our players from entering the draft that we want to keep. Sure the we lose one or two a year but for the most part we keep the players think will help us.

Every f*cking year its the same f*cking thing. We sit around and wait on every person thats good to be signed by other teams and we don't do sh*t. D.J. Hackett. We see how that turned out. I f*cking tired of it. For once can we make a huge splash in free agency.

Right now you are acting like the #1 D-bag...

What do you want us to do, huh? This isn't Madden my friend.

Learn the pay scale and our financial situation, before you start talking about making "splashes".

If you want to cheer for a team that makes "spalashes", how about you go cheer for the Raiders or the Redskins.

geez

And have you really taken a look at whats out there? What player do you want us to jump on?

Sure, rookies make mistakes. But I've seen a much higher bust potential in "top tier" free agents than in first round draft picks.

The Panthers under Fox and Hurney have made excellent choices in the first round, all of them being starters. For the Panthers as an organization, I'd rather us draft then spend money in FA.

No I'm not just bitching to be bitching. For once would'nt you like to make a huge splash in free agency? Weather its right or wrong. I would love to hear the Panthers plasterd ALL OVER the NFL network for once.
