3 questions for the huddle.

Recommended Posts

Hell no-neither of those guys are going to be happy as a back-up.

No-we lost games last year b/c we couldn't score points - letting any offensive player walk at this point, especially a top tier RB with a rookie QB, would be foolish.

No - if you can't get pressure on the QB, especially in our conference you are toast.

Good morning huddle nation, me and some friends were sitting around last night drinking and discussing the Panthers and we came up with a couple interesting questions that I would like to hear your response to:

1. Would you be willing to trade steve smith if it meant we could bring in a great veteran QB? IE Mcnabb or Kolb

2. Would you be willing to let D-will walk if it meant we could bring in a top CB FA prospect? IE Nnamdi Asomugha

3. Would you be willing to let CJ walk if it meant we could bring in a top DT prospect? IE Brandon Mebane or Barry Cofield

Basically could you stand watching one of the big three go if it meant we could address other areas of concern. Lets be honest, RB and DE are pretty solid positions for us. WR...... well, they are coming around. But DT, CB and possibly a veteran QB all seem to be very pressing needs.

What could you stomach?

1. That is insane. Mcnabb is an old man. Never was worth the brown stuff in Smith's jock strap. Who the hell is Kolb?

2. D-will is one of the few things we have that sells tickets. Wont happen.

3 Glad you aint the coach.

No to all.

1 and 3 are pretty easy.

2 is hard to say. Without DWill, JStew would probably have a breakout season, and be able to handle the job. But with Cam in there, I think we will be relying heavily on our run game, which will take pressure off of Cam. Having double trouble in there will help out our offense a lot.

A top CB would be nice, but our offense needs to be as good as possible. Keeping DWill here will help out immensely.

I am not saying any of these are good idea's. I hate hearing people talk about, why arn't the Panthers going after the top FA's when we have so much talent on our roster we need to secure first.

A lot of people want to see us go after big name FA's. What they fail to realize is that in order to afford them we are going to have make some sacrifices.

These three questions were simply to try and understand who we really thought was expendable. I find it interesting that the overall answer was D-Will. Then again, RB is our strongest position and CB is one of our weakest. Might have been a loaded question, or a smokescreen.

1) No. IMO, there are no vet QBs out there that are worth making that trade. Even if we keep a disgruntled Smitty, that does not necessarily mean he will decide to give less than 100%. He knows if he plays the good soldier, his value will remain at a high level. Which is to his advantage. At least that is what I hope. Because I want Smitty to be here.

2) No. If we could get a top 3 CB, then maybe yes. Otherwise, D-Will is worth every penny of the 5mil or so he is going to get. Elite RBs are few and far between. If you have one, you had better keep him. I got to watch Barry Sanders, which was amazing. Having D-Will around has been just too much fun. So again I say, I want him around.

3) This one depends on your wants and needs. If you want pentration and disruption, then CJ is the man you need. If on the other hand you want stability on your interior, then your need is a quality DT. Both are valid wants, with needs that are attainable. I personally want the former, so I would need to keep CJ. So from my perspective, that would be a no, because I want CJ on my team.

Just my thoughts, and GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!

No to all 3 of your drunken based questions. I dont think it's wise to let any of them go. They are still top 5 if not top 10 at their respective positions in all of the NFL. You don't let talent like that go.

The right answer is to go after Joseph and Cofield and attain both of these in conjunction with re-signing the aforementioned players.

If Smith wants to go, it's OK with me. He aint done much lately anyway. Probly best to trade before he is completely worthless. Just get something decient.

I think you meant "decent"

As far as Smitty going... It doesn't make sense for Smitty to go anywhere. He's still a top 10 WR in this league easily. Having a QB to actually get him the ball, coupled with the fact that we have a target TE in Shockey... And hopefully the progression of Gettis, LaFell, Edwards, and the rookie Pilares, and Smitty should be primed for a HUGE year for us. It makes no sense to trade Smitty with his stock so low at this point. At least if we let him go, let's do it after he has a more productive year thus raising his stock and we actually get something for him. I'm not of the mind to ever let him go... But if we do, I say that this is the way to go.
