QB on our team who could potentially start the season off, I'd say its fairly relative to our interests on what he's doing.

I'd prefer Clausen be hanging out with Brees, Manning, Brady, etc learning how to play QB rather than wasting our time at some glorified boot camp so he looks good in his jersey.

Right, Newton is actually at a facility learning how to play QB at the NFL level while Clausen is working out with Linebacker's and secondaries. With no WR's how the hell are you supposed to play better?

Umm why can't he be doing both? Maybe he ran with them to stay in shape. As unlikely as it is, he might just have time to run and work on the play book. I know impossible right.

:jc: has been practicing and working on the playbook. he was at all the volunteer workouts for panthers players as far as I heard too.

he may have blown last year but he isn't seeming to blow off his chance this year to show improvement to some other team.

I am not a Jimmy fan, but I am hoping Jimmy is working his butt off. If by some miracle he can improve enough to push Cameron, I would be tickled pink. That would mean he would actually have some value.

That said, we know exactly what Cameron is doing to prepare for the upcoming season. Whereas, we know very little of what Jimmy is doing, or whom he is doing it with. Showing up at the workouts is basically the only thing I have heard of him doing. So my comfort level is still low, because I do not know what he IS doing to improve.

So it is still up in the air with me. Jimmy working his butt off only helps the Panthers, and I am all for that. However, IMO he has skated by on reputation up until now. So if he does finally get that it takes hard work and dedication to excel in the NFL, and come in and push Cameron. Then he may just make me change my stance.

I just hope that last year finally showed him that unless he can improve, he is not going to last long in the NFL. Which means coming in with a firm grasp of the playbook, being in shape, and ready to prove last year was his last bad year

Anyway I think that should about do it for the Jimmy bashing for now, and GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was not trying to turn this into a JC/Newton debate, only implying that Jimmy working hard can only be a good thing. I didn't think my post would incite a debate of that nature anyways.

The more our young QB's practice, the better they will be and the better the Panthers will be.

Jimmy has skills aplenty and will show them at some point when he is given a decent opportunity. Not sure last season counts at all for the kid. That said, Cam is truly unique and should be hard to beat out of the top spot. The fact that the both of them have reportedly been doing everything right this summer is nothing but good news for the Panthers.

Busting on one guy or the other are true signs of stupidity as neither of them deserve it.

Last year's season and drafting Cam will make Jimmy a better leader and teammate which is much of what he lacked. These humbling experiences did much to temper his cockiness and feeling of entitlement. He is saying the right things and doing everything he should to be a good teammate. Frankly the way Cam came in here despite all the press and hype should have taught Jimmy a few things about being humble. Lets see what happens in camp and who emerges. I for one hope there is healthy competition and one person isn't just handed the job. Seems we have had enough of that around here.
