Fans make their voice heard: Want a FA QB

I saw that and just let out a long sigh.

We do need a quarterback. We do NOT need any of the quarterbacks that are available. Rest assured if a true talent is available at some point the FO will do their best to pick him up, I think this is telling as Delhomme is yet to be extended.

My prediction is that once all the dust is settled and there are no viable quarterbacks to be picked up, we will extend him and look next year.

Most fans think only in terms of skill positions.

That’s why the team’s biggest need is for a quarterback, after Jake Delhomme’s six turnovers in the playoffs.

That’s why most fans have a No. 89 jersey but couldn’t name another receiver on the team.

That’s why people are quick to congratulate Williams and Stewart but know little about the line they run behind.

And that’s why anytime a quarterback, running back or receiver is on the market, someone posts about the Panthers going after them.

Last year’s offseason showed us how critical a dominant line is. Now let’s apply that same plan of attack to our defensive line. Our skill players are already in place (quarterback is debatable, but I don’t think it’s enough of a need to warrant really going after anyone; at least not to replace Jake right now).

I think you're off base with the "most" comment. Most fans know their team and are more knowledgeable than you give credit.

Most people on this board are knowledgeable. We constitute a very small part of the fanbase. Go to a game and hear the people around talk about the game as it is happening. Many of them don't have a clue.

Perhaps you’re right.

I guess I’m thinking more of Johnny Q. Panthers Fan, the average guy who might watch the Panthers game every Sunday, but doesn’t research and keep up with the team as much as others might. It’s no surprise that such a person would think we need to go after a quarterback, especially after Delhomme’s performance in the playoffs. A more comprehensive view, however, might acknowledge how poorly our defense played down the stretch, as well as cap figures and the whole financial side of it.

Umm I'd dare to bet I've been to as many if not more games as anyone. And yes I've sat beside an elderly lady or bubble gum popping teen or two who had no Idea what was going on. I've also sat beside 8 year olds that knew the entire roster, and were very aware of rules of the game.

But to imply that "most" fans fall in either of these categorys is untrue, the majority of people who truly follow a team know who all 22 starters are.

EDIT: I should add the majority of fans are watching on TV, and can't help but be informed.

    • I just want somebody to settle into that Hangartner role and I may give Mays too much credit. He played so well early and has fell off since injuries crept into his vocabulary.  He was struggling to get push on those goal line runs today.
    • You cannot say it doesn't matter who is playing QB ever in any circumstance. The first two games of the season, Bryce was standing in the pocket with time missing throws left and right. We were running the ball well, but even the gimme throws Canales was setting up, Bryce was missing. Then you start Dalton, boom easy win at Las Vegas. By week four's end, three of our best defenders are seriously injured, center injured, 2nd best veteran WR hurt, and best veteran WR quitting on the team.  Canales is a rookie head coach, and he definitely has had some see what sticks moves. But players are being schemed open, the rookies are progressing nicely, and you have the albatross of some terrible lack of talent to phase out. I give him credit alone for pulling Mingo, Thomas, and going with the better/younger producing players. The scheme is better, he just needs better players and I am not going to write him off until he gets more talent, starting with QB!
    • I don’t want this to be another Daniel jones situation.
