Cam Newton won’t “bring race into the game”

Prior to the draft, Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon complained that criticism of Cam Newton was based on his race. Since Moon was acting as an advisor to Newton and given that Newton said nothing to contradict Moon’s comments, some assumed that Moon was saying what Newton was thinking.

If that’s what Newton was thinking, it’s not what he’s saying.

“Sir, it all comes down to whether a person wins or loses,” Newton told Andrew Corsello of GQ, via NFL.com. “I don’t bring race into the game, ’cause then you’re talking about excuses. I. Hate. Excuses. Excuses are a disease.”

It’s a refreshing attitude. Coupled with the manner in which Newton has been putting in the hours during the lockout, we’re starting to think that Newton will be everything that the Panthers hope he’ll be.

I don't like Cam right now. I think he thinks entitled to things. Gets in a little trouble and bolts. Then I have to come in here and listen to how great he is and he is yet to do anything with the club. I Know there's a lockout and I understand the homerism but enough is enough. Let him do ANYTHING, like signing a contract or putting on his uniform, before we start raining praises on him. One of the best 3 QB's of all time?? WTF!!!! I hope he succeeds but my god lets tone down the rhetoric about him.
