Bobcats Rd 1, #7 pick Bismack Biyombo

The only thing he has in common with Okafor is that both are defensive and rebounding specialists with limited offense. Other than that, they are really nothing alike. Bismack is much more athletic, plays meaner, and is far more aggressive than Okafor. IMO, he's what we hoped Okafor would be, but wasn't.

I can see the aggression angle and give you that point, but these two guys are painfully similar in every other aspect of the game. Even down to having Congolese backgrounds, which I didn't even realize until after posting that bit of information. Athleticism is a wash. Okafor broke down a bit in Charlotte, but at UCONN he was a freak. This player has the same stiff movements, hard hands, and slow feet that plagued Okafor in realizing a bit of his offensive potential in the post up game.

I am super excited about Kemba, but this player strikes me as somewhat of a wasted pick. I don't even know if he can achieve Okafor's level to be honest and I think he's older than his advertised age.

Highlights of the triple-double he had this year at the Nike Hoop Summit. Some of these blocks are ridiculous. And for an 18 year old (assuming he's 18) who hasn't been playing basketball long, I don't think he's that bad offensively. I think he'll play most of his minutes at power forward next season. Once he gets bigger/stronger he'll definitely play center.

No, Okafor was never anywhere near as athletic as Bismack. In fact, EO50 had a little stiffness in him that limited his upside. Biyombo is very athletic for a big, and it shows in some of those blocks he made and the way he got up and down the court. I also disagree with his slow feet. Sure, he can improve his footwork, but it's not a case of slow feet, just imperfect technique.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not 100% sold on him. Frankly, I haven't seen enough to get a good feel of what he will eventually become. But with his athleticism, motor, and reported work ethic, I tend to think he can become at least a very solid pro, with the possibility to be very good if he improves his offense...particularly if we pair him with a scoring big.

Good Breakdown Woody. Bismack see to be more flexible then Oak. Oak was really stiff with his game. It seem like it was a trail for him to shoot. Plus Bismack is more explosive he gets off the floor faster and has faster foot work. I think with some good training he can develop a nice offensive game.

I told somebody in here that he will be a PF. He is not strong enough and will have more mismatches playing C. He is a better fit at PF.

I don't see how he'll have more mismatches at C. His shot blocking ability is outstanding. And with his wingspan not too many centers are going to be a problem when it comes to defending or affecting their shots. Who says he is too weak? He's got a muscular frame. Can he afford to add some meat to beef up?... sure. But look at Dwight Howard and his transformation since high school. Bismack has the stength and length to play center.

Bismack's offensive game raw and is lacking inside and midrange. So that lends be to believe that most of his points will come from the paint area in the form of dunks. Playing him at PF with say Kwame Brown or Diop would not be ideal (especially on offense). Play him with Tyrus Thomas who has a midrange game and lingers around the high post, you have much more varity and is more ideal. I guess this position debate is pointless because we are gonna continue to disagree. And also, he can and will probably be asked to play both. But center to me is more ideal and the transition will come easier. It just in his skill set. To me he is DeAndre Jordan-esque.

1st the only thing I can see wrong with his Off. is nobody has worked with him on it. His jumper has a nice form to it and he looks like he has soft hands.

2nd Hopefully he is not having to play alot of minutes with Brown and Diop. I'm hoping we will make a play for either Kaman or Dalembert maybe Jordan.

3rd Coach has already said he is a pf.

A first I hated this pick, but this draft was weak. We had to swing for the fences. We definitely did that.

at first i hated the pick and i still do. NOW if Brandon Knight wasnt on the board, then i agree with the pick, but i think Knight would've been a better pick for the future.

The SG spot is already occupied by "the future" in Henderson, and interior play was a much greater priority. Biyombo most likely would have been gone to the Pistons at 8 if we passed on him, hence the move to 7.

IF we would've drafted Brandon Knight, i would personally had him playing PG not SG. Henderson is the future, i dont want to ruin that, but Knight at PG could work. i like him better at PG than Walker and i am not a fan of Biyombo due to the fact that he's VERY limited on offense and he could be a pain to get because of a contract buyout.

It was well-documented after the draft that the buyout will be a non-issue and he should be in Charlotte whenever we have an NBA season.

Yes, Biyombo has limitations, but if the coaching staff was able to get decent production from Kwame freakin' Brown, surely they'll be able to get something out of a guy that actually has potential.

yeah, but i dont see much offense from Biyombo, maybe great defense, but i stil rather have Brandon Knight. dont get me wrong, i wont die from the Biyombo pick, i just rather would have had Knight, kinda like some panther fans rather had Luck than Cam Newton.
