Dubstep...hmm

I've really tried to find some artist in this style that I actually like for at least a year now and just can't. Countless peeps keep telling me how awesome it is throwing out names like Skrillex (sp?) and people play it all the damn time now, it never ends. I've really tried to like it, but I think its bad enough to the point where I'm wondering why people consider this engaging at any level on drugs, drunk, in a club, or whatever.

side story:

Now a bud who's been a "DJ" for a few years and doing pretty well at it wants me to help him on a new song. So I go over to do so...him and 2 friends are using that protools thing to produce. First few things I ask when I get there: What key is it in? What's the time signature? Wanna jam before we lay something down? Answers: They had no idea about any aspect of music theory, none at all and couldn't actually play an instrument.

There were 5 midi keyboards, 2 guitars, a bass, and a few mics...none being used while these guys and a gal argued after we blazed about the first 30 seconds of the song for at least an hour. The worst high experience of my life :( Painful to bear.

So back to dubstep:

So, someone please tell me what type of structure beyond incredibly overbearing bass to where you can't hear the accompaniment & layers that makes this music any different than house. What makes this a style that can only be formulated by musicians if everything is basically a samples of samples mashed together digitally on an interface that does everything for you? And feel free to post what you would consider fun/entertaining/good (whatever the hell adjective you wanna use) dubstep to convince me otherwise.

I don't know poo about dubstep, never heard of it.. but about your side story, I don't know your experience with people, but get used to the millions of people who fail to see the big picture and want to argue over 30 seconds of poo for over an hour.

I swear it's a disorder everyone has. I can't tell you how many good ideas I've talked to someone about and they're all hype about it only to get distracted over irrelevance, whether it's due to ego, knowitallism, OCD, or just being incredibly short-sighted and ignorant...
