Rookie Cap article and how it might affect Newton and other top picks

Good article b/c it really shows how quickly rookie salaries have gotten out of control. From Matt Ryan getting $35 million, then Stafford getting $41, Bradford $50, and estimating Cam close to $60 million. Completely out of control and I am glad both sides agree to get this in check.

they need to fix it, I don't understand how ANYONE could argue that there shouldn't be a rookie scale.

It'd be like your company hiring some guy out of college and paying him a salary twice as high as yours while you have already worked there for 5 years and do the exact same job as him.

He'll probably get a 5 year 30 million dollar contract, and 10-15 million in guaranteed money. The contract will probably also include incentives.

That sounds about right.

But it makes me wonder, what pick would garner a similar contract for a QB in previous years, without the rookie scale? Would the contract Cam will sign be roughly equivalent to a QB picked at #8 or 9...higher, lower?

    • We are wearing black jerseys with blue pants. I'm getting a little exhausted with all the combos.  I kinda miss the black/silver and black/black for certain games tbh.
    • Its not something that could be backed up by data one way or the other.  Its just an opinion, like most things stated here.   Regarding my comment that started this discussion, Imo its more difficult to find good offensive linemen than wide receivers, due to a number of factors.  Granted that anyone that reaches the NFL has elite skills, but  I think that most players with the size, strength and skill would rather play on the defensive line.  If an offensive linemen does his job well, no one hears his name.  But if a Dlinemen gets to the qb a couple of times a game, all the fans know it.   Have a good offensive line directly impacts the run and passing attacks.  Where as have a good group of receivers only indirectly impacts the run game.  Miami's run game has taken a huge hit this year, while ours have improved.  I think Hunt is a big part of the reason this is true.  Not the only part of course, but a big part.
    • Where is the Roaring Riot tailgate these days. Probably the best bet
