leaving for southeast asia

primarily i'm working with the organization mentioned above. doing work on an orphanage, probably building furniture for it, etc. i'm leaving a week early to go through more of southeast asia... documenting as much human rights violations in burma as i can without getting arrested, then fully enjoying myself in laos (the rafting/biking is something i've wanted to do for years.) i've got a week after cambodia before my flight for kiribati leaves from australia, so i'll spend it exploring the mekong delta in vietnam, then singapore, then brunei briefly.

Well heck, you need a Panther fan friend to go with you?

Sounds like one hell of a job, journalist of some sort? I would love to travel abroad...

nope... this is the sort of thing i do because it calls to the wolf deep in my soul, or something jack london-ish

...although my eventual goal is to do freelance work for nat geo, so i guess i have journalistic goals...

Who "pops" into Myanmar? I mean, that may have never been said before.

i'll only be there a day, and it's not the main portion of my trip. i'll walk across the thai/burmese border, document what i can (burma is a hugely closed country because of the mass of human rights violations) and peace out for the laotian border.

can you get a ticket to bangkok for tomorrow's date, sleep in threadbare guesthouses, eat at hawker stands, speak asianese and bring a flask? if so by all means ;)
