San Francisco

On 2 Jul, my wife, two boys, and I leave Colorado Springs to travel to our new home in Hawai'i. Fortunately for us, Uncle Sam is putting us up in San Francisco as our Port Call. We arrive in SF around 0830 on 2 Jul and do not leave for Honolulu until 3 Jul around 0900. Any suggestions on what we need to do/see?

We are staying in the Union Square area. Of course, we plan to go to Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate and possibly Alcatraz. What else? Thanks.

Ghost tour of Alcatraz. There's some cool hiking area close to San Fran. Will you have a car or are you relying on BART?

We will most likely rent a car. We will have 6-8 bags, two car seats, a double jogging stroller and a cat, due to the fact that our stuff will not arrive in Hawai'i until late August or so. We don't really want to pay for two cab trips from/to the airport with all that stuff.

Alcatraz is a must in my opinion...fantastic tour.

Like others said there are some nice trails for bike riding and hiking but being in town for only 1 day the three things you listed will probably be all you'll have time for, there's also cable car rides & ferry tours of the bay which if the weather cooperates are amazing. Also Pier 39 for shopping/eats/games its easily accessible from the Wharf

Scoma's is great place for seafood located along the wharf.

If you were in town longer I would have suggested driving 2hrs south to Monterey to check out the Monterey Bay Aquarium (great for the kids) or driving 30min north to Sausalito for some shopping and a nice dinner (great for the wife)
