Dwayne Jarrett......

The only problem with Moose at #2 and Jarrett at #3 is that we do not have anyone other than Smitty that can stretch the field. Moose and Jarret are pretty slow.

Run First teams focus on chewing up clock, not quick plays. Granted they happened quite frequently last year, but our philosophy is to chew up clock and that's the kind of people we have. Big, Tough Possession Receivers, hell even Smitty is a possession receiver in most respects.

You often don't see big plays aside from the long runs and steve smith catches (which happen more often when we're behind or with a substantial lead if you've noticed.)

Dwayne Jarrett will have a breakout season this year. I really hope he does get the start over Muhammad this upcoming season only because I know for a fact he will be a superstar in the near future. I am going on a limb and saying Jarrett can play as good, if not better, than Muhammad who by the way is going to be 36 years young in May. One flaw that people may point out about Jarrett is his blocking which nobody can really determine that with the lack of game time the man has had. Give Jarrett the starting spot opposite of Smith and he will not disappoint. I don't really want to break out the old stat book and inform everyone why Jarrett has yet contributed to the team but if I really have to, that's fine. The main reason is because our passing game only focuses on distributing the ball to two main receivers. One of whom I agree totally on about giving him the ball at every opportunity. All in all, start Jarrett over Muhammad and we don't need to address the receiver position in this off season, for now that is.

This season will be his last chance...with us anyway.

That is kind of a silly statement. If he had playing time and wasn't getting any better i.e. Colbert then I could agree. He will be huge this season as others have pointed out. Might even get that #2 spot from Moose by the time the second season starts.

His play, in my opionion is very 'Muhammad like' . He's like 6'1" or so, and a big target, and he broke a lot of tackles in college, hopefully we'll see him come full circle this coming year.

I thought he was bigger than that. 6'4" is a pretty big target.

I think he will be the X-factor this season. Smitty, Moose and Jarrett are a pretty formible WR corps that are good blockers for our running game.

I told you all about DWill this last season, now I am telling you about Jarrett.

Jarrett will be that next great suprise.

You heard it here 1st.

D'Will 3rd season was an explosion and I believe the same for Jarrett this coming season.

Go Panthers

The problem is that our run game doesn't chew up clock. It only takes DWill and JStew 2:00 to run down the field for the TD (see first drive of playoff game, the only one in which we committed to the run).

He dropped one in the endzone in the San Diego game at the end of the first half. But he was rocked pretty hard trying to get his first touchdown. He certainly needs more passes his way, dude hasn't even gotten a touchdown yet.

tough to call that a drop.

Jarrett has the best hands out of all WRs in Carolina (hopefully he can stay on the field so he can use them and get more physical).

i posted this in another thread a while back but still think it fits...i don't think that this year will be the break out year for him.

he is still going to be the 3rd option at best.

moose is going to see the field a lot more than jarrett just for his downfield blocking.

providing that jake throws about as much as he did last year (380 attempts in regular season) which, considering the run game we have is probably about right.

smith is going to have about 30-35% of the targets go to him. about 9 targets a game would give him around 145 targets in the regular season. he'll catch about 60% of them so that would be about 87 catches.

moose will probably get no less than 5 targets a game on average (he got just over 6 last year). he caught about 60% of what was thrown his way. say it's going to be 80 targets (compared to 108 this past year...15 in game 1, no smith). 40 catches.

the WR3 (hackett/jarrett) got 47 targets last year...just under 3 targets/game. I can see him, as the lone #3 receiver and having gained confidence in himself and from jake, picking up another target or two per game. give him a generous 60% reception rate that would mean 4.5 targets per game, 72 targets, 43 catches. 12-13 yards a catch....537 yards and maybe a TD or two.

point is...the numbers may not be spectacular but if he can get a bit over 40 recps/500 yards/2 TDs i would consider him to be progressing nicely and has given more reason to be trusted with more the following year.

now will robinson cut into those numbers or will jake spread it out more to the TEs (about 15% targets last year) and RBs (who got about 14%)?

I wouldn't be surprised if Jarrett out performs Moose next season. I still think Moose would remain the #2 purely b/c of blocking but Jarrett has much better hands and Carolina needs to give him a fair shot to let him produce. I wouldn't be surprised if he pulled in 5 TDs and about 400-500 yards.

depending on the draft and camp/preseason battles....I'm not ready to include Robinson in the group that has a locked spot on our active roster.

I would have to think that Robinson gets a spot on the active roster based on his return abilities alone.

As for Jarrett, I fully expect him to have a breakout year and for us to give him a nice contract at the end of the season. I see him fully taking over that #2 spot after Moose is gone. Though Moose had a solid year in '08 and keeps telling everyone he ages slowly, like he's a vampire or something, so who knows how long this guy will be around.
