Overrated/Underrated Players

the dude has a nose for the ball and the action and makes big plays. he's able to capitalize on the moment in a big way. sure, a lot of it is being in the right place at the right time, but he gets himself in the right place quickly and consistently. that speaks volumes about him. his ability to capitalize on them makes him an impact player.

He has 1 interception and 5 FF in 5 seasons.

We are not overrating him. You two are underrating him calling him marginal. I won't even bring up how you called him undersized(just did) when he's the same size as the rest of our LB's. The guy isn't a fluke he just made plays when he had the chance. Marginal guys dont have probowl caliber seasons.

also it's not a shock that beason was meh in the middle initially, given that he spent part of training camp preparing to play elsewhere

"ability to capitalize." interceptions and fumble recoveries, especially the latter, are extremely flukey. he just as easily could have had 0 fumble recoveries and 0 interceptions this past year

edit: i don't recall using the word marginal

i will add that i think it is misleading to say he has a nose for the ball when he made plays that were funneled his way lol. not like he has crazy range or something

He only has 1 year as a starter. The year before he started 7 games and had 65 tackles so if you average it out he would've had the same kind of season that year too if he started the whole year. Forced fumbles and INTs are extras for linebackers. Tackles are their main focus.

Fine. I know nothing about football. Really, I have never even watched a game.

I am sure that GMs around the league are lining up at the chance to sign this guy to a big dollar contract. Just wait and see.

I would say you were probably thinking of Diggs but mentioned Draft, maybe not sense you dont think that highly of JA. Regardless, neither had a season comparable to JA, neither has Davis. Yea we know he is a talented athlete, but your homerism of Davis equals your haterism on Anderson. JA's first chance to start he proved he deserves that spot, while Davis, well we are kinda waiting on that potential to be the player we want him to be.

how many opportunities did he have prior to last year and '09 when he filled in for TD?

INTs and FFs are a good gauge, but by far not the only way to gauge being an impact player, esp. LB (unless those are the main/only thing you look for and are driven by stats to make judgments).

your use of stats did nothing to contradict what i said.

I was arguing that JA is overrated by panther fans. But that's insignificant I guess.

I thought you were arguing that he is not an impact player and that things like tackling, forcing plays in other directions, rushing qb's and occasionally forcing turnovers is not impact... just marginal. No one is saying he is great, but he deserves to be recognized and deserves a starting spot on this team. Yea he could fall off next year, even he has 38 LESS tackles, he would match Davis' best season in that category.

No one here is saying he's the GOAT or a top5 linebacker. We're saying he's good and better than most think especially people that say he's a marginal starter and any linebacker can do what he did last season. Just give the man his credit. I won't say he's better than TD because it's first year as a starter but he had a better year than TD has ever had. I'm just glad all three of them wear Panther uniforms.:cam:

I was arguing that too.

Look, we speak different languages and have different opinions on the value of JA to this team. Let's let the man settle it out on the field next year when the Panthers have a few more linebackers and he isn't in Meeks' system anymore.

I think we can all agree that this lockout needs to end soon so that we can quit bitching and arguing about stuff like this.
