Overrated/Underrated Players

yeah, these light d-lines are often going to rely on the lbs to clean up the mess in the run game. esp when they get no penetration lol

b/c teams adjust and find ways to exploit players' weaknesses? nearly every player, save the highly touted ones, start of vanilla roles and yet not all of them improve or even hold

I guess we will just have to wait and see about that. You still can't deny he showed up big and exceeded expectations last season.

I bet you that Ron Meeks has had a top 10 linebacker in tackles on everyone of his defenses (neglecting any issues associated with a starting linebacker getting injured).

wow, way to go out on a limb and state some facts...

and that's not saying much anyhow, you prob'ly can point that out and still not prove anything other than he had solid LBers.. which is what Anderson is.. lol

what has davis done that anderson hasnt to be considered an impact player?

When Davis is on the field, he is an incredibly explosive player. The two really aren't even comparable. Anderson is an undersized, speedy guy that understands the game well. Davis has/had :( all the talent in the world and also understood the game.

If you can't see the difference between Davis and Anderson, then this discussion is pretty much over.

so what do u mean by impact then? you really arent making any sense. you use imaginary stats to tell us anderson is marginal but use your eyes to tell us davis is considerably better. please be consistent.

Impact players are those types of players that you can't really go out and find replacements for. In other words, they are the guys that you break the bank on. Everyone else is either a solid starter, a marginal starter, a role player, or a scrub. We have been talking about Jeff King in another thread- he is a marginal starter/possibly solid starter.

There are tons of James Andersons available in the NFL. Hell, I will say that the Panthers have had several James Andersons in the past few years---- remember Chris Draft? If Anderson becomes costly due to his inflated numbers from playing in Meeks' defense, then the Panthers should let him walk. There are plenty of cheap alternatives available.

There aren't tons of players like Thomas Davis available.

I will give him this--- Anderson has come a long ways from his rookie year. He is now IMO a marginal starter, which aint bad considering his ass was a candidate to get cut not too long ago.

 What else does the man have to do? Did you watch the games last year. He outshined Beason. I'm not saying he's the best, but he's earned his spot as a starter. He's proved he's solid and can be dominate. I'll be more concerned with TD coming off the injury at this point. He was only "on the verge of being cut"(not sure true) because he didnt get a chance to get on the field over the more experienced Diggs.

Absolute proof of my contention that Panther fans overrate James Anderson.

Beason was struggling when they moved him from the middle. Anderson picked up the slack. I don't know where you get the idea that you can get any ol' linebacker to rack up 130 tackles.

Beason has been outplayed by other LBs for parts of seasons. The first half of 2010 Anderson did outperform him. Beason definately impacted what teams were doing but Anderson was the one making the big plays. Teams probably didn't need to go away from Beason as much as they did b/c Beason did look lost at times moving so much.

well wrt impact, i think davis was player who was capable of covering up errors (in some facets of the game) and had some flashes of blowing things up due to his range and athleticism. that is not to say he was w/o flaw, but i see anderson as more of a guy who is limited to making plays funneled his way so solid, but not particularly dynamic

edit: ok well i think you guys are crazy if you honestly think anderson would be as good a mlb as beason

2: sorry that's not what i meant to say. if you honestly think anderson outplaying beason for a few games means anything other than beason had a stretch of games where he didn't play all that well
