Rosario is a more efficient pass blocker than King...

According to profootballfocus.com, Dante Rosario is a more efficient pass blocking TE than Jeff King. He was the 4th best pass blocking TE in the league from 2008-2010 while King was one of the 5 worst...

It is a surpise, however, to see two pass catching tight ends, Dallas Clark and Dante Rosario, in the top five. We know (largely) why Clark features so highly and that has something to do with Peyton Manning’s ability to avoid giving pressure a chance to influence him. But Dante Rosario is more unexpected, though he does benefit from being used in a number of two tight end sets where both men stay in, and as a half back more inclined to pick up a blitzer than an end. It’s still an impressive response to the challenge.

I have thought for a couple years that Rosario is the biggest sleeper on our roster, with a TE-oriented OC and offense, maybe this is his year to breakout?

He lacks mental focus but is clearly an athlete. Pass blocking is as much about athleticism as anything, and Rosario has plenty of it.

I bet you King is the better run blocker though.

Maybe, but it's always seemed odd to me that Rosario has been our 2nd and 3rd string fullback at times but he's not a better run blocker than King?

Isn't athleticism a big part of run blocking?

I have a feeling that Rosario was in Fox's doghouse and as we've seen with other players once you got in Fox's doghouse it was almost impossible to work your way out. Couple that with the fact that King is a very smart player and a good leader and King's starting role may have had as much or more to do with his intangibles than with him being the best TE on the roster.

Rosario is a vet and has a clean slate now, I'm hoping he takes advantage of the opportunity, I think he has a MUCH higher ceiling than King or Barnidge.

Can't take that website as fact.....too many times there "data" shows stuff that just ain't reality.

No, but it is interesting that their analysis shows Rosario as a significantly better pass blocking TE than King AND the 4th best in the league over a period of 3 seasons... I don't think most people expected to see that (including the author himself)

I don't know....don't sleep on Gary in the recieving department. I think he has just as much potential as Rosario Dawson in that department. A lot of unknowns about our TEs since Fox simply refers someone with Kings skills set being involved.

From the fullback position in which you have to run to the line of scrimmage and pound someone, yes. From the TE position where you are blocking directly out of your stance, maybe not so much.

Barnidge seems stiff and I've never seen him make a contested catch.

 they go through every game snap by snap and collect the stats. probably most detailed stats there are. definitely the most thorough stats anywhere. their "data" is just the result of their analysis of the stats.

they have the most clear picture of what is happening on the field than anyone available.

we will most likely only be keeping one between king and rosario.

considering we have a new rookie QB, this, along with his being a better receiver/playmaker than king, is going to make him more valuable considering we have a rookie QB.

Possibly, but I would think athleticism would be even more important when run blocking from the TE position at the LOS because you don't get a running start like you do at the FB position, the ball is snapped and you have to get the guy blocked right away.

My suspicion is that things didn't start out so well for Rosario with Fox and that put him in the doghouse, meanwhile King came in and was a much more consistent and reliable player.
