adam shaefter "small owner war brewing against CBA deal"

I would be happy with giveaways and getting Panthers stuff like in year's past. In 2010 I didn't get squat but a program. How about 3 or 4 dollar beers for a start. Prices just keep escalating to the point that I rarely spend any money for food or drinks in the stadium preferring to fill up at the tailgate before I go.

If they gave away autographed player pictures as giveaways it would be a serious incentive to go. They could randomly give out 1000 a game (25 players would sign 40 a week) That would be do able.

Just a thought........

not a bad idea as far as the autographed giveaways go......that would be something to draw interest.

Cincy's owner was the lone voice during the last CBA they stood against things.....Jerry has admitted he was absolutely right.

Richardson is the one negotiating the deal (as he knew he would be). He also is virtually the only owner to of prepped his organization to go through a lockout/shorten seasons. There are owners who are sweating right now......Jerry is by far the most prepared for this thing to go long and get ugly (and again he knew he would be in the driver seat).

Just my guess.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cincy is in that group as well as Tampa.

As for Jerry being positioned well, this isn't about this year or even the next 2 but instead the next 10 years. As such the issues are trying to look ahead and predict where we will be in 5 or 8 years and what we need to have in place to be successful in the long term. Owners and players know that this lockout will take it's toll on the league and that another work stoppage in a few years when one side or the other thinks they got shortchanged will be highly deterimental to football. The fact that some owners are unhappy is a good sign that the deal is actually a fair one for both sides. If the owners were uniformly happy, it would clear that they would be getting the best end of the deal and the players would be unhappy in a few years.

The best thing Richardson has going for him is 70,000 PSL owners who are locked into paying for tickets whether they want to or not. His money is assured.

I believe Ralph Wilson viewed the deal with a combination of skepticism and senility.

maybe, but Jerry admitted it was the wise view......and Jerry prepped his organization so he could take a stand. I can't imagine owners standing against this and Jerry not being part of that voice.

I have no idea what is going on and won't speculate. I imagine they are trying to build a consensus and want to cater to whoever is disgruntled. They can agree to a new deal with 24 out of 32, but I doubt they would. They got a pretty unified front last time and will probably get one this time.

This is a small group of small market teams that likely are against such issues such as spending 90% of the floor in cash every year. This is not the majority or the side that Jerry represents. I suspect that jerry was one of the main critics of the last CBA and led the charge on renegotiating. However after being in these negotiations and seeing how they have gone, he could have backed off his hard line and modified his stance.

Plus a big problem to work out was revenue sharing between the owners. It is possible that the disagreements are about that as much as they are about how much they will give the players.

well, Jerry is a small market team....and nothing about his pie chart or tone reported on thus far would make me think he would back of his stance this early in the game. Jerry knows he can get what he wants if the other owners don't cave.....only problem is not everyone is prepared to have a lockout like Jerry. It is guesses and opinion, but I think Jerry wants what is best for all owners......and committed before last season started he was going to take the stand here.

The owners backing off are the ones who want and need to play football right away. Jerry IMO wants a shortened season, b/c if they eat into the season the owners get the deal they want.

Charlotte isn't a small market team. Our television DMA is the 23rd largest in the country and Charlotte is the 18th largest city in the country. The population within an hour of the stadium is well over 3 million.

You miss the point completely. Jerry can't be against the very negotiations he is leading. How can he not be in agreement with what is being decided when he is the guy deciding it. Of course he is on board because he is driving the train.

Who do you think is negotiating this?? Goodell?? He works for the owners and does what they want. And Jerry is representing the owners.

If Richardson wants what is best for all owners then he will make a deal everyone can live with, which seems to be exactly what he is doing. Other than arguing for the sake of argument, what is your point here. I can't seem to find any logic here. You act like he is part of the fringe dissenters but he is leading the negotiations. If he is doing what everyone wants, then he will be negotiating a deal that works for everyone. Not splintering off with a hard core few. From what I have read, he has been present at all the negotiations.

I think Jerry is the one in charge and nothing suggests he is one of them owners willing to compromise just to play football at this point. He has been very clear during this process of what owners need here.....and right now they don't have what Jerry has preached on ( and he has been that voice not a small group of other teams).

Name 10 teams based on your criteria that are a smaller market than Carolina or as may as you can. In the NFL world, Carolina is a small market team. Carolina isn't one of the 4 smallest but they lean that way vs the other direction......
