John Kasay: Terrible or Great?

people pay far too much attention to the history of a player they like than what they are currently capable of, not to mention their short and long term potential.

i try to throw loyalty to players i like out the window. helps with being able to look objectively at the team. sticking with a layer out of loyalty got us too many years of jake among other players we should have let go a long time before they were.

you either look forward or look backward.

He's been a great player but that botched kick off will always tarnish him to me, we would have a ring right now if he just did his job and KEPT IT IN BOUNDS

Kasay gets too much crap for that....

They could have returned a clean kick that far or farther...you never know. Even if got a touchback....Brady had basically 1 full minute to get them into field goal position.

agreed. like i said, i'm ready to move on, but there were too many things going on that caused the loss.

teams don't win or lose on a kick. they either put themselves in a position to win or they don't. panthers didn't.

belicheat's taping of the panthers practice hurt more than anything.

you want someone to blame, look for the hooded one.

Ummm do people remember that the game was tied? If he keeps it in bounds AND the defense holds (two things that didn't happen anyway), we go to overtime and it probably comes down to a coin flip. Fox is probably much more at fault because we could have had a lead there and he wanted to chase points too early. Also does anybody remember that Jake started out 1-9 or something? Why do some people just blame Kasay?

I definitely dont JUST blame Kasay, I think we had all the momentum and would have won had we held them to the 20-30 like we were the whole game. They kicked that FG with 00:04 seconds left, they should of never been that close. The main thing is the momentum, I'll never forget how my stomach turned over when he flubbed that kick, you just knew that they were going to win

and the lack of a run game and our d-line being exposed as the pats were able to run

Maybe I made this up but didn't we go for 2 and miss it in the second half?? If my memory serves me, had we gone for 1 and made it instead of going for 2 and missing it, that field goal for New England would have tied the game not won it for them.

You're correct.

DeShaun Foster scores 17-21

Muhammad scores 24-21

Vrabel scores 24-28

Proehl scores 31-28

Vinatieri FG 31-31

Can't really blame Fox, though. Who knew it was going to turn into a shootout?

As far as Kasay goes, great player who make one bad kickoff.

I realize I am late to this party, but I never met a party that did not amuse me.

Kasay has a career % of 81.9. How many of his 96 misses have been from 50+ yards? IMO, because he can make FGs of 50+ yards he tries more 50+ yard FGs, and by extension, his % will be lower than kickers who do not attempt as many of those longer kicks.

Also, I do believe the length of his kickoffs is a direct reflection of his FG accuracy. He kicks his FGs at a certain angle every time. So his kickoffs reflect that angle. His kickoffs are higher than most which limits his length. I also believe his career return average is only 20 yards, precisely because his kickoffs are in the air longer than most other kickers. I guess I should add that STs can cover higher kicks more efficiently than those longer yet lower kickoffs. Not everyone gets the kick into the endzone.

In conclusion I truly believe that with the added 5 yards on kickoffs, Kasay can reach to the 5 or so. With a 20 yard return, teams will be starting inside the 30 which I can live with. So there is no reason on earth to worry about our kicking situation this year.

Kasay is as good as they come, and we have been extemely fortunate to have him. So I am inclined to vote for GREAT! But I also agree that kickers probably do not make the most formitable statues.

Just my thoughts, and of course, GOOOO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!
